This summer, Shimon Peres will turn 83. People his age, who have been lucky enough to live this long, play with their great-grandchildren, buy gifts for their grandchildren and irritate their children.

But the phoenix, in the words of the title of his new biography, refuses to rest. Let the boys play with political plans. In any case, nothing much will come of it. Peres decided he would spend the rest of his days, hopefully many, implementing the sea-to-sea canal program, which h as been around almost

as long as he has. The idea is to link the Dead Sea to the Red Sea and make the border that separates Israel, the Palestinian Authority, Jordan, Egypt and the Gulf States bloom. Peres argues that an economy is not subject to political borders. And yes, he is still certain that the future of Israel and the entire region is hinged on regional development.

The concept behind the plan is that it is not peace that will lead to economic prosperity, but economic development and the creation of jobs that will foster the desire to achieve regional peace and reduce the importance of political borders.

The infrastructure projects will include a canal channeling the Red Sea’s waters to the dying Dead Sea and

the Jordan River. Two desalination facilities, one north of Eilat and the second south of the Dead Sea, will render the water usable for irrigation. The water will irrigate vast swaths of desert along the route of the canal in Jordan, Palestine and Israel, for the benefit of agriculture, industry and tourism in the area, costing a grand total of $2 billion. Among the other projects are a rail line from Irbid, Jordan to Haifa to promote trade between the countries by providing Jordan with a direct link to the Mediterranean Sea with a stop in Palestine (estimated cost – $300 million); an international airport in Aqaba to be jointly used by Jordan, Egypt and Israel that will enable accelerated development of population centers in the three-state area ($300 million.) The canal will also facilitate development of a large industrial center in the Beit She’an region and the operation of the Timna copper mines by a joint Israeli-Egyptian-Jordanian team.

Tectonic Chaos – Chapter 11 – Salty Sea to a Fresh Water Lake!

Figure 47 is a general summarization in a pictorial format of what has been presented thus far by a narrative discourse.

It shows the area as I believe it will appear during the Millennium. Please note that the Dead Sea is forecast to become a living sea. At the present time, the Dead Sea is so saturated with salt and other solids that aquatic life forms cannot be supported. Fish that enter the Dead Sea from its tributaries perish shortly after their entrance. For centuries the elevated Arabah Fault to the south of the Dead Sea has prevented the waters of the Jordan River from reaching the Gulf of Aqaba (Eilat). Consequently, by a process of evaporation, more and more salt has been continuously added to the land-locked body of water Zechariah identifies as the former (eastern) Sea (See Archive Birth Pang Figure 47).

Zechariah 14:8 – And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be.
When God splits the Arabah Fault, during the tribulation period, a natural graben river valley will be formed between the blocking section of the fault structure, and the Jordan’s waters will finally be able to flow from the Dead Sea into the Red Sea by way of the Gulf of Aqaba. This will eventually clean most of the salt out of the Dead Sea, but the shallow northeastern sections will continue to have salt in coastline marsh areas. (See Archive Birth Pang Figures 47 and 48).

Ezekiel 47:6-12 – And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this

As we begin with verse six, we have just walked eastward a little over a mile (4,000 cubits) from the utter gate of the Jerusalem Millennial Temple, and have arrived at the brink of the diverted Jordan River. During our walk, we passed directly through the graben valley created during the tribulation period when the Mount of Olives divided into two sections, one moving to the north, and one moving to the south. The stream along which we walked developed after the Israelites fled to the Negev by way of the valley of the mountains. The area, through which the entire stream and Jordan River Complex is prophesied to flow, is one of

the most fertile soul profiles in Israel. But no matter how fertile and perfectly zoned a soil profile is, unless there is water, no vegetation will spring up. This has been the problem in this dry, arid region for centuries, but God is going to change all that. Trees, and all types of vegetation, will flourish along the length of these two living water rivers as they flow toward the Mediterranean and Dead Seas, and the remnant of Israel will use this new source of

water to irrigate the desert lands of Judah and most of southern Israel. I am convinced Israel will become the breadbasket of the Middle East. When Judah’s water shed, to the west of the line from Geba to Rimmon, lifts up as a fault block ridge, it will increase subterranean water flow into the spring that still flows under Jerusalem. The lifting along the Tyropoean Valley fault, just behind the Temple Mount Complex, will cause the spring to surface on the Temple platform just north of the Dome of the Rock, and it will flow eastward as a stream for a thousand years. As westerly winds being the moist Mediterranean air up the gentle slope of the uplifted western Judean watershed block complex, adiabatic cooling of the moist sea air, coupled with convective heating of the plain, will produce frequent periods of orographic and convective precipitation.

Some of this rain will drift off the higher central watershed and fall on what are now arid sections of eastern and southern Judea. I also believe that more frontal activity will affect all Israel by increasing precipitation totals. Increased precipitation will not only water the soil profile directly, but increased occurrence to the west of Jerusalem will keep the water table supplied with ample water to feed Ezekiel’s temple spring continuously through the entire 1000 year reign of Christ. God will so structure the land and the climate that lack of water will no longer be a problem to the east of the line from Geba to Rimmon.

As verse 8 indicates, a part of this fresh water flows into “the east country” (east of the Mount of Olives), then “down (southward) into the desert” (desert of Judah and Arabah), then finally “into the sea” (Dead Sea). Once they are brought forth into the Dead Sea they cause water now there “to be healed” (the salt content is reduced sufficiently to start supporting aquatic life). This is all made possible by the opening of the Arabah Fault into a channel that will allow the Dead Sea to drain most of its salt content into the Red Sea via the Gulf of Aqaba.

Verse 9 gives a clear prophecy that the Jordan River system, from its northern tip to its entry into the Gulf of Aqaba, will be filled with all sorts of aquatic life, this being made possible because the Dead Sea has been healed from its extremely high, life taking, salt content.
Verse 10 reveals that fishermen will fish for a great, exceeding variety of fish along the Dead Sea western shoreline from Engedi to Eneglaim (See Archive Birth Pang Figure 48). This entire shoreline is now barren of all aquatic life forms.

Verse 11 tells us that the northeastern zone of the Dead Sea will exist as a salt marsh because it will be out of the direct fresh water trajectory flowing into the western shoreline (See Archive Birth Pang Figure 48).
Verse 12 is a picture of a vast aggregate of all types of fruit producing trees.

The fruit of the trees will be a part of the “meat” supply of the nation of Israel, and various extracts from the trees will be used for medicinal purposes.

Ezekiel’s vision of great fertility in the wilderness of Judea is echoed by many of the prophets, in terms similar to those put forward by Isaiah, as he describes the effects the new hydrological changes will produce in the desolate zones of Israel.

Isaiah 35:1,2,6,7 –The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.

[2] It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellency of our God. [6] Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert. [7] And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons (jackals), where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

The day is soon coming when God will so geologically reconstruct the topography of his Holy Land by a massive shifting of his tectonic plates, that the deserts and wildernesses of Judah shall be thoroughly irrigated with waters from a reorganized Jordan River tributary system. Where only jackals (dragons) now dwell, men and women will leap for joy like a hart, and Jewish tongues will sing praise to God for his great blessings of fertility. A vast green paradise will exist where only arid wasteland once appeared. One of these changes involved in the many that will be wrought by God, is the opening of a valley in the Arabah Fault block, which will allow the contents of the present Dead Sea to flush through it on the way to the Red Sea’s Gulf of Aqaba. At the present time there are convective currents of magma that flow upward into the lower sections on both sides of the Red Sea, which is causing the sea floor to spread apart at the rate of several centimeters per year. This same lake of magma underlies the entire length of the Jordan Valley, but, at the present time, the faults on both sides of it are locked, or “frozen” in place above the magma, and its upward convective currents are much more passive here than under the Red Sea (See Archive Birth Pang Figures, 23, 24, 25, 27, and 38). However, when the present Red Sea floor spreading of the fault finally reaches its critical limits, at that time the northern, or “locked” portion, of the fault will suddenly burst open on both sides for a distance of about 185 miles from the Port of Aqaba (Eilat) northward, to become a raging inferno of volcanic smoke, pitch, and brimstone. The greatest restructuring will occur in that section or the fault block between the southern tip of the Dead Sea and the Gulf

of Aqaba. That section was known as Edom or Idumea during the time of most of the prophets (See Archive Birth Pang Figure 23). Isaiah writes of this catastrophic tribulation period ripping transformation of that land, which will form a new river channel to drain the Dead Sea.

Isaiah 34:4-10 – And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree. [5] For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. [6] The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, it is made fat with

fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the Lord hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea. [7] And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. [8] For it is the day of the Lord’s vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion. [9] And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. [10] It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.

This is a classic description of what geologists label as a “flood basalt plain,” and verse 10 indicates that some degree of volcanic activity will occur there off and on throughout the Millennium. The activity would appear to be such that only wild animals would live there during that period.

Iran and Hamas have a Long Term Weapon Storage in Mind!

The huge influx of weaponry now flowing through the Sinai into Gaza is long range planning for Islam’s dream of a future victory over Israel. It is no secret, in military academics, that one of the greatest advantages an enemy can have over his opponent is the advantage of being able to attack him from within, as well as from without. In the future Jihad attack from

the north along both sides of the West Bank, the Palestinian forces will be attacking outward through the security barrier on both sides, as the Arab forces flow south along it.

Many of these smuggled weapons will be used in that breaking out by the Palestinians.

Diskin: 11 Tons of TNT Reach Gaza Strip since Pullout

The amount of weapons and explosives smuggled into the

Gaza Strip since disengagement was bigger than the total amount smuggled into the strip since the Six Day War, Shin Bet head Yuval Diskin said Tuesday in a meeting of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

According to Diskin, since the IDF left Gaza, in September 2005, there were 11 tons of TNT, three million bullets, 19,600 rifles, 1,600 pistols, 65 RPG launchers, 430

RPGs and some 10 shoulder rocket launchers smuggled into Israel.

The Shin Bet head added that Israel had also foiled attempts by the global Jihad to establish an ideological infrastructure in Nablus and around Jerusalem.

He did not elaborate.

Diskin also said that he believed that Kassam fire on Israel from the Gaza Strip would continue.

In addition, Diskin spoke about the current state of the Palestinian Authority. “Fatah could accept its election loss and wanted to hold to power, as opposed to Hamas, which did not expect an election victory but did not know how to hold on to power.” He said that despite t he current standoff between t

he two parties, he believed neither side wanted a civil war.

According to Diskin, Hamas is encountering problems paying PA salaries, saying that it was ironic that most of this money was owed to Fatah employees. “Hamas is aware that they need to pay this money as it is the motor driving the PA economy,” said Diskin.

The Shin Bet head added that there was an internal struggle within Hamas between “those who want to make an entrance onto the international stage and those who want to continue their pursuit of terror.”

He called Abbas the “hope of Fatah and the international community.”

Concerning the three-day extension Abbas granted to Hamas to accept the prisoners document Diskin said that Abbas had started something of crucial importance but that he “doesn’t know how it would all end.”

He stressed that Israel would not interfere with proceedings.

“Iran is putting pressure on Hizbullah to carry out attacks on Israeli targets,” he said, adding that more than 20 million dollars had been smuggled in suitcases to the Hamas movement.

He said that international Jihad movements were active in both Sinai and Jordan.

TEL AVIV — Israel’s military, hampered by a budget

shortfall, has suspended major programs in the army and navy.

“With the [current] defense budget, we are scratching the bottom,” former Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh, a Labor Party Knesset member, said.

“Our [military] strength over the last three to four years has declined by 30 percent as a result of cuts in the budget.

If we don’t preserve our military superiority, we won’t be here.”

Officials and industry sources said the Israel Defense Forces has blocked approval of major procurement projects required for the war against the Palestinian Authority and Hizbullah, Middle East Newsline reported. They said that virtually every project not financed by U.S. military aid has been affected.

On May 30, the Israeli Cabinet approved a 510 million shekel, or $113 million, cut in the Defense Ministry’s budget of 33.5 billion shekels [$7.78 billion] for fiscal 2006.

The Cabinet also rejected the Defense Ministry’s request for a multi-year budget.

“The 2006 budget and the multi-year vision had already been agreed to and signed,” Defense Minister Amir Peretz said. “As part of coalition agreements, it was also determined that all budget deliberations would begin in 2007 and not 2006.”

Officials said the Cabinet decision would cancel or delay key projects not financed by the $2.2 billion of annual U.S. military aid. They said some of these projects had been planned for launch over

the next year.

“When you cut the budget in July, it’s clear that you can’t cut in an optimal way,” said David Ivry, a former air force commander and director-general of the Defense Ministry. “To cut projects is the least optimal.”

Officials said virtually every new procurement project in the navy has been slashed or delayed.

They said this has included plans to purchase everything from the enhanced Dolphin-class diesel submarine from Germany, corvettes from the United States as well as indigenous unmanned surface vessels.

“The navy has told us send us your USVs and we’ll try them,” an industry source said. “But there’s no way they will buy them. There’s no money.”

The army has suspended or reduced numerous programs as well. They include the procurement of a long-range guided rocket as well as miniature unmanned aerial vehicle systems.

The Ground Forces Command had planned to procure a mini-UAV system for each combat battalion.

But officials said GFC doesn’t have the budget to procure a significant amount of UAVs over the next year.

“This is a vital asset for ground forces in both conventional and low-intensity warfare,” a Defense Ministry official said. “But there’s such uncertainty over budget stability that decisions can not be taken.”

The army has also delayed decisions regarding the future of the Merkava main battle tank program.

Officials said the decisions include whether to continue production of the current Mk-4 in 2007 or develop the Mk-5 model, designed to contain full network centric capability.

“We don’t know if there will even be a Mark-5,” a ministry official said.

Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Dan Halutz said the latest budget cut would threaten

the Merkava tank program as well as reservist and standing army troop levels. Halutz said he has been insulted by the government’s failure to honor the military budget.

In contrast, the air force would be largely spared from the budget cuts, officials said. The air force spends 60 percent of the military budget and benefits the most from U.S. military aid, which finances the procurement of everything from fighter-jets and helicopters to fuel.

For his part, Ivry said the suspension or elimination of programs in the middle of a fiscal year would not be cost effective.

He cited contractual obligations and worker severance pay.

“The cost of severance pay is higher than the savings,” Ivry said.

Bye! Conventional Merkava 4’s and 5’s!

I was rather surprised by some armor decisions made recently by former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is now the Treasury Minister in Ariel Sharon’s Cabinet. He believes Israel faces two threats – The Palestinian terrorist groups, and the weapons of mass destruction that are being developed by Arab states in the Middle East, notably headed by Iran. Of course, both of these are real threats, but I do not agree with his statement that followed. He does not believe the threat of an invasion by Arab states against Israel on the ground is a feasible reality and, because of this, favors the decommissioning of old war systems, like the Merkava tanks, at an accelerated rate. Netanyahu attributes great importance to the strategic view, which would provide answers to the Iranian nuclear threat and to other state’s weapons of mass destruction. He favors the continuation of the security fence to its completion, but desires to see the discontinuation of Merkava tank production. If Israel does follow this program, believing they are secure from an outside ground attack at the present, then once they finally get the Palestinians fenced in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, it will give them a sense of “peace and safety” as regards their being overrun from the north. Scripture indicates it will happen. Without the conventional old war systems, such as the Merkava 3 and the new Merkava 4 tanks, Israel would be much more vulnerable to a conventional attack like the one launched against them from Syria in the 1973 Yom Kipper War. The deterrent to non-conventional weapons, now being developed by the Arab states, lies in the Negev wilderness in the form of nuclear, chemical, and biological warheads on the hundreds of Jericho missiles found there. The mass destruction weapons possessed by Israel in the Negev are more than a sufficient deterrent to cause the Arab states not to launch theirs against Israel. When Israel truly believes it has attained peace and safety, then a conventional war attack will be launched against it from the north.

How long will Syrian President Assad be Able to Stay in Power?

I assure you that the kind of “democratic” government the opposition is planning to establish in Syria, if they overthrow the regime of President Bashar Assad, is not the type we know in the U.S.A.! It will be more like the Democratic Republic of Iran. As you know, if you have perused the Prophecy Updates in our Archives, I have written for 32 years that the Antichrist would rise out of the area occupied by the ancient Empire of Assyria, and that I considered the most likely part of it, out of which he would arise, was Syria.

I have taught since Bashar Assad became the President of Syria in 2000 that his regime would fall before 2008, and that his immediate replacement, or the one quickly following that man, stood a good chance to be the Antichrist.

Syrian Opposition Urges Public to Oust Current Regime

LONDON — Key Syrian opposition figures on Monday urged Syrians to work to oust President Bashar Assad by using acts of civil disobedience reminiscent to the upheaval that freed nations behind the Iron Curtain.

Describing Assad’s regime as oppressive and corrupt, the leaders pledged to bring democracy to Syria, which has been ruled by Assad since

the death of his father, Hafez, in 2000.

“The people are fed up with the government,” former Vice President Abdul-Halim Khaddam told The Associated Press after a conference uniting forces against Assad. “Of course they are scared. Our plan is to encourage them to get rid of this fear. … The military is not going to get involved.”

Two of the group’s most prominent members are Khaddam and Ali Sadr el-Din Bayanouni, head of the banned Muslim Brotherhood. Both exiled leaders forged an alliance in March after long being at odds, forming the National Salvation Front for Syria and urging the government’s ouster and formation of a transitional government.

The two leaders stood shoulder to shoulder following a news conference, insisting that working together was in the best interest of Syria — whatever their past disagreements might have been.

“This is also a response to the accusations, the exaggerations of the regime, when it says that the alternative to it is chaos,” Bayanouni said.

Diverse groups are represented in the front, including former members of the ruling Baath party and the outlawed Brotherhood, a fundamentalist Sunni Muslim group blamed for a campaign of assassinations and bombings in Syria in the early 1980s that was brutally crushed by authorities in 1982.

A member of Syria’s ruling elite for three decades, Khaddam broke with Assad last year and fled to Paris with his family. He said he was certain the Syrian people would support a peaceful change of government.

“We want a change of government and a democratic Syria … like what happened in Eastern Europe through the people’s will,” he said, speaking through an interpreter. At one point he corrected an interpretation to insist that he wasn’t advocating revolution.

Amnesty International claims that 10,000-25,000 people were killed at Hama in 1982 to put down a revolt by supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood, though conflicting figures exist and the number could be considerably smaller or larger than this. The Syrian government has made no official claim about the number killed.

A representative from the Kurdish minority as well as liberal and democratic groups also attended the London meeting.

The alliance has pledged that the proposed transitional government would abolish Syria’s 1963 state of emergency and release all political prisoners.

IS THE ASSYRIAN ANTICHRIST SOON TO ARISE?

Syria is beginning to slip its intelligence units back into the Palestinian camps in southern Lebanon, and may be planning more assassinations of Lebanese leaders that are anti-Syrian. Between the activities of the army

of Hizbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon, and their own covert activities, Syria has no intension of letting Lebanon out of its political grasp.

Watching the events unfurl in Syria, (which was once a part of the old Assyrian Empire), over the next two years, could well prove to be very interesting. The current President of Syria, Bashar Al-Assad, simply does not have the expertise to measure up to the biblical characteristics and role laid out for the future antichrist. I expect him to be taken out by a coup within two years and, after the coup and a brief period of struggle for leadership, I am looking for a strongman to pop up in the Syrian governmental structure, and take control decisively. He could be the Assyrian antichrist. Many are expecting the rise of the man of sin to be a long gradual process. I am not! I have always believed his initial appearance would be sudden and decisive. Before the world sees the Son of man return in a cloud to end the tribulation period, become King over all the earth, and stand and feed in the strength of his Father, the Assyrian antichrist will attack the nation of Israel from the north. It will be his attack that invokes the Son of man to return at his Second Advent some 3 and ½ years later.

Luke 21:27 – And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

Zechariah 14:9 – And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.

Micah 5:4,5 – And HE shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall HE be great unto the ends of the earth. [5] And THIS MAN shall THE PEACE, WHEN the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.

There is no question in my mind that “THIS MAN” who brings “THE PEACE” of 1000 years, WHEN the Assyrian antichrist attacks Israel about 1260 days prior to the final battle of Armageddon, is “the Lord” and “king” found in Zechariah 14:9, and “the Son of man” in Luke 21:27.

Micah 5:1-4 – Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek.

[2] But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old,

from everlasting. [3] Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel. [4] And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

These verses, exposited on in Parts 1 through 4, were written more than 700 years before the birth of Christ, and yet they present: (1) Bethlehem as His birthplace, (2) His rejection as ruler over Israel, His last Passover in the “daughter of troops” Jerusalem, (3) His “head beatings” by the troops of Pontius Pilate, Herod, and the High Priest, (4) His rejection as the judge of Israel, (5) His Father’s siege against Israel because of their rejection of the Son (which has lasted some 2000 years), (6) Christ’s temporary rejection of Israel, (7) His Second Advent as Messiah after Israel’s travail of 1260 days in the Negev Wilderness (at which time His brethren will return with Him to the nation of Israel), and (8) The first 1000 years of His eternal kingdom, which phases into the final heaven age when the present earth and heavens pass away.

Micah 5:5 – And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.

Now, in verse 5, we find that “this man” will himself “be the peace” because He personally brings it in by Himself when he returns to be “great unto the ends of the earth” for 1000 years. “This man” who brings “the peace” of a thousand years is, of course, Jesus Christ. He is the primary contextual subject from verses 1 through 5. What happens to motivate His return to bring in the millennial reign is the movement of the Assyrian into the land of Israel. It is the final defeat and destruction of “the Assyrian” that will mark Christ’s Second Advent, and the beginning of His millennial reign.

When Micah wrote his prophecies the Assyrians had already driven into the northern Kingdom of Israel, and all that remained of Israel proper was its southern Kingdom of Judah. So what were the borders of the land of Assyria when Micah wrote the fifth chapter of his book? The borders of the Assyrian territory stretched northward from roughly where Ramallah is located in the West Bank to the present day southern border of Turkey, and eastward to the Mediterranean Sea to establish its western limits, then westward across the Euphrates River to the Tigris River north of modern Baghdad in Iraq. Technically, I suppose one might be able to say this future “Assyrian” might come out of southern Turkey, northern Iraq, or Lebanon, but since modern day Syria occupies some 85% of the area covered by the Assyrian empire at the time of Micah’s writings, I am persuaded the Assyrian antichrist will come out of Syria. The possible argument that Micah 5:5 was fulfilled during the old Assyrian invasion of Micah’s day, is thwarted by the context pattern of the four verses before it all still being unfulfilled at the time they were written, and then being linked contextually to verse 5 by “this man,” and “the peace.” Additionally, this argument is smashed by the verse that follows it.

Micah 5:6 – And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: th us shall he deliver

us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.

From the time of Micah’s writings to the present day, Israel has never “wasted the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof.” I will exposit specifically on both these locations in Prophecy Update Number 67, Lord willing.

The “Assyrian” of Micah 5:5 is not a European, an American, a Russian, an Eskimo, an Aborigine, an Ethiopian, or a platypus.

He is an Assyrian, who becomes chief prince of the land where descendants of Meshech and Tubal were dwelling when Ezekiel wrote his prophecies. I will elaborate on this in future updates, Lord willing. The expression, “seven shepherds and eight principal men,” is an oft used Hebrew idiom. It was the Hebrew manner of expressing “more than enough.” Seven is the Hebrew word for “complete,” implying “enough,” and when “eight” is added to it, the expression means “more than enough.” When the Assyrian comes into Israel, and treads within its borders north of Beersheba for 1260 days, then Jesus will return to restore peace for 1000 years on this planet. Christ’s Second Advent is accompanied by some 5/6 of the Assyrian’s armies being destroyed by the brightness of His coming. His destruction of the Assyrian and his false prophet will make whatever force Israel is able to muster up in the Negev for the battle of Armageddon “more than enough.”

When the Assyrian sets on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, as the willful King of the North preparing to launch his final attack on Israel at the battle of Armageddon, he will be beyond all help by men and Satan. Some 3 and ½ years before Armageddon the antichrist will have launched the attack described in I Thessalonians 5:3,4, Ezekiel 38:14-16, Zechariah 13:8,9, and Revelation 12:6

I Thessalonians 5:3,4 – For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. [4] But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Ezekiel 38:14-16 – Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord God; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it? [15] And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army: [16] And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

Zechariah 13:8,9 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein. [9] And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The Lord is my God.

Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Near the end of the aforementioned 3 and ½ year period he will gather all the troops of Europe, Eurasia, Asia, and Africa for a final assault on Israel in the Negev, but the battle of Armageddon, which follows Daniel 11:45, will be the end of him, his armies, and his false prophet.

Daniel 11:45 – And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

II Thessalonians 2:8 – And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

Revelation 19:19-21 – And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. [20] And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

[21] And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

Ezekiel 38:22 to 39:2 – And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. [23] Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord. [1] Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: [2] And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:

From Triumphant Entry through Time to Gloom a Generation Later!

Matthew 21:8-11 – And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. [9] And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.

[10] And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? [11] And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

A generation (40 years) passed after Jesus made his triumphant entry as Messiah into the old city of Jerusalem before it fell to the Roman Titus.

The Temple Mound Platform was leveled and Jerusalem’s occupants were carried into captivity to fulfill the first half of Luke 21:24.

Luke 21:24 – And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

The last half of the Luke 21:24 Prophecy for Jerusalem was fulfilled in June of 1967. The Song of Jerusalem in captiv ity was sung from 70 AD to 1967 AD as

it was captured in Psalm 137 in 1000 BC.

Psalm 137:4-6 – How shall we sing the Lord’s song in a strange land

? [5] If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget her cunning. [6] If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy.

A generation (40 years) will have passed in Jerusalem in 2007 since Israel took it back from the Gentiles in 1967.

I suspect it will be taken from them again at some point in time between 2008 and 2012 and held by the forces of Islam for some three and one-half years, after which it will be retaken by the Israelis and their Messiah will conduct his reign in it to fulfill Zechariah 14:9.

Zechariah 14:9 – And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name

Gloom in Jerusalem

The liberation of Jerusalem in 1967 symbolized the realization of the nation’ s dream

s in those days. The State of Israel had never before known a more joyous moment than when then military commander Motta Gur’s voice crackled over the airwaves: “The Temple Mount is in our hands.”

Some 39 years have gone by, and a pall of gloom now hangs over Jerusalem, and on over parts

of the country too.

The elation is gone.

Not only is the Temple Mount not in our hands, but other parts of the city too are only formally under Israeli control, and, in fact, are no longer “in our hands.” Israel’s capital is divided not only between Jews and Arabs, but between Jews and Jews. The sense that Jewish and Israeli identity would be weakened if Israel fails to retain a grip on its historic parts is diminishing, and the smaller the national and emotional solidarity with the capital the smaller the desire to fight for its unity.

In the first years after the liberation, Jerusalem Day was marked as a national holiday.

Over the years, with the decline of the day’s national and emotional status, it became the holiday of the religious communities. In the annual flag procession, like the one to be held today, youth movement mem

bers are hardly seen anymore. The number of school trips to the city has been dramatically reduced, not only for security reasons.

The heart is growing distant and detached from that which Jerusalem symbolizes.

The heart’s inclination is followed by (non) action.

If the nation is ready to break the oath, “If I forget thee oh Jerusalem, let my right hand wither,” there is all the more reason to break it when it comes to other parts of the country. Nor did the nation’s tongue stick to its palate when the Temple Mount was offered at Camp David to the Arabs by a Jewish prime minister (the proposal was drafted by Jews in an institute called, how symbolic, the Jerusalem Institute). If the nation no longer considers the City of David the most important thing, why should Hebron, Elon Moreh, Beit Horon and Beit El be?
