t Bashar Assad rose from a dentist chair to become the ruler of his Father’s country. His father was quite ruthless in dealing with any form of resistance by any political men or groups in Syria, and would no doubt have still been in power were he still alive.

Hafez Assad’s oldest son was groomed to be the successor of Hafez as President, but died in an automobile accident in Lebanon.

Some say it was not an accident, but a deliberate act by drug traffic merchants.

So Basher, the next son in line, was quickly groomed for the presidency by Hafez.

I do not believe that Bashar really knew how to be ruthless, which is one of the main characteristics a Middle East ruler must possess if he is to stay in office. I believe it is something he had to learn, rather than it being a naturally inherited part of his character. He is still in what has to be a continuing process of learning an acquired characteristic, and I suspect he hates every minute of it. He is under international pressure from both the good guys and the bad guys and his own relatives. I hope he can be deposed by getting out of the country without losing his head. He seems to me to be a nice family man that fickle fate put in an awful position, who is now turning into a monster to stay alive and in power.

Almost a year after Syria completed a humiliating military withdrawal from Lebanon amid predictions of imminent regime change in Damascus, President Bashar Assad is clawing back lost ground.

Dozens of dissidents have been arrested in recent weeks. Among those detained were Michel Kilo, a prominent democracy activist, and Anwar al-Bunni, a top human rights lawyer. US and EU diplomatic protests have been brusquely rejected.

A silent purge of other signatories to this month’s so-called Damascus-Beirut Declaration is also under way, sources said yesterday. Backed by about 300 Syrian and Lebanese intellectuals, it urged normalisation of bilateral relations. It coincided with a UN security council resolution demanding an end to Syrian interference in Lebanon. But Mr Assad, encouraged by Russia and China and backed by Lebanon’s pro-Syrian president, Emile Lahoud, ignored that, too. The Syrian leader has cracked down on travel abroad for political purposes and renewed pressure on national media to toe the official line.

And in a bid to neutralise the rise of political Islam, the secular ruling Ba’ath party has made a series of conciliatory gestures to the Sunni majority. Mr Assad has even taken to praying for the cameras. That contrasts with his late father’s brutal suppression of the Muslim Brotherhood, symbolised by the 1982 Hama massacre.

“There’s a big effort to try to get everybody on side. The strong message is that no criticism will be tolerated from whatever quarter,” said Rime Allaf, a Syria analyst and Chatham House fellow.

Explanations of the regime’s new bullishness lie largely beyond its embattled borders and, paradoxically, owe much to US policy choices. Washington’s enthusiasm for regional democracy was tempered by Hamas’ election victory in Palestine.

ase distracted attention from Syria, as has nascent civil war in Iraq.

And then there is Iran, America’s next big thing.

Isolating Tehran means inducing Syria, one of its few Arab allies, to stand back. Though it would not admit it, Washington needs Mr Assad.

At the same time, the Syrian leader’s recent muscle-flexing is also motivated by fear, fixated on two looming events.

One is next month’s UN report into the killing last year of the former Lebanese prime minister, Rafiq Hariri. Whether or not Mr Assad is accused of wrongdoing, senior officials have already been implicated. But the extent of the regime’s embarrassment is likely to be directly proportionate to American determination to pursue it.

Potentially more problematic for Mr Assad in the longer term is the National Salvation Front, an umbrella opposition alliance that will hold its first conference in London next month. The NSF brings together two formidable figures: Syria’s former vice-president, Abdel Halim Khaddam, who defected last year; and Ali Sadreddin al-Bayanouni, the exiled leader of Syria’s Muslim Brotherhood.

Such collaboration by secular and religious opposition leaders was unusual, Ms Allaf said, and was an echo of Mr Assad’s own recent efforts at cohabitation. “This is the first time in four decades that we’ve seen significant organised opposition to the regime. They’ve gone out on a limb to draw in other exiles and groups from around the world.” If the NSF proved a serious proposition, she said, all Mr Assad’s machinations could count for nought.

How any nation on the face of this earth, with a sense of morality, could send money to support the fanatical Hamas government is beyond my understanding.

I assure you that when the Jihad is finally launched against Israel, to be followed some three and one half years later by Armageddon, the emotions of all Muslims living across the surface of the earth will be fully exposed for all to see. They will cheer as Islamic forces brutally slaughter men, women, and children as they drive Israel into the Negev.

Hamas, Gaza Arabs, Mourn Al-Zarqawi’s Death

An official Hamas announcement mourns the “murder” of Al-Zarqawi, the “jihad warrior” who “fell in the name of Allah.” Gaza Arabs rallied and demanded revenge for the killing.

Hamas officials read aloud the official government declaration, which accused the Americans of effecting a “Crusader” killing of the Al-Qaeda leader on Islamic homeland territory.

In Khan Yunis, near what was once Gush Katif in southern Gaza, young PA Arabs demanded revenge for the killing of Al-Zarqawi.

Holding aloft signs with his picture, they demanded terrorist attacks to promote the “justice” for which they claimed Al-Zarqawi fought.

A Qatari newspaper quoted a “Palestinian,” Hisham Abu Subhi, as saying, “I am extremely sad. No real Muslim will be happy hearing of his death.

He was fighting the Americans and laid down his life for Islam.”

“The Hamas solidarity with Al-Zarqawi is not surprising,” reports Arutz-7’s Dalit HaLevy.

“In addition to ideological similarities, Hamas conducts ties with suspected terrorist affiliates of Al-Qaeda.”

On March 26, for instance, Hamas senior Muhammad Siam met near the Pakistani-Afghani border with Sayad Salah A-Din, the head of the Hazb Al-Mujahedin terror group in Kashmir, which ran training camps in Afghanistan and which is suspected

of having ties with Al-Qaeda. HaLevy reports that Siam heads a group that supports all-out war against “infidels” and has issued a blanket religious dispensation for suicide attacks against Israelis.

Diskin delivered this grave, explicit warning at his Knesset foreign affairs and security committee briefing Tuesday, June 6. So far, there is no sign of the Olmert government addressing the menace fast closing in on Israel.

DEBKAfile has traced the passage of al Qaeda operatives from the Gaza Strip to West Bank towns and Arab Jerusalem, in line with its planners’ tactical landmark decision to plant ideological roots in the Palestinian population before turning to terrorist action. Missionary work has begun to prepare the ground to receive the same cells as have been established in Gaza as “Al Qaeda-Palestine.” The world jihadist group decided on the incremental approach to its penetration of the West Bank so as not to clash head-on with secular Palestinian security and intelligence services, the Shiite Hizballah’s networks and Hamas, which is leery of al Qaeda as a potential rival for Palestinian rule. Tracts from bin Laden’s Palestinian speeches are popular. Extremist Muslims are snapping up Zarqawi-style black knit caps.

Like Ariel Sharon before him, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert still turns a deaf ear to all the signs of the burgeoning threat poised to spring at Israel’s heartland from around its borders. PROPHECY UPDATE NUMBER 71A

WHEN ISRAEL IS SUDDENLY VISIOUSLY ATTACKED IN A SURPRISE LIGHTNING JIHAD BLITZKRIEG FROM ITS NORTH, WHY DOESN’T THE U.S. ATTACK THE ISLAMIC GROUP OF NATIONS THAT ARE ATTACKING HER?

This is a question I have been asked over and over again for a long time. I was asked again on e-mail recently, and this time, rather than answering the query privately, I decided to make it a prophecy update, so that that in future I could just attach this update to any new query and save myself repeating it again.

The one thing that I learned in the National Security Agency which has been, is, and always will be the motivating factor in any decision made by any country, including the United States, may be simply stated in two words: NATIONAL INTEREST. Many will cry out and say, not so, we did it for humanitarian reasons, we did it to secure justice, we did it out of compassion, we did it out of love, we did it because we love freedom, we did it because we are a great nation: and on and on shall come statements from every realm of society, from “bleeding” liberal hearts to the “hardened” hearts of the extreme right, all giving different reasons as to why this country did something. But the truth of the matter is that, in the end, we always did it for what amounted to NATIONAL INTEREST.

The United States has quick response attack naval and marine forces in position at all times to put down a banana republic type of minor conflict on short notice. But in order to conduct a successful operation again a Jihad the magnitude of the coming attack of many nations against Israel, we would require some time to get enough regular ground troops in place to have a real hope of victory. It took us a very long time to get enough men and equipment into the Middle East to insure success in our victory against Iraq. The Scriptures indicate that 10 Islamic nations will be led by the Antichrist, and that they will quickly take Jerusalem and drive Israel into the Negev. When Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Iran come pouring southward on both sides of the Samarian mountains, and the Palestinians break out in all directions internally from within the enclosed buffer zone, chaos will reign supreme from Dan to Beersheva. There will be so much inner mingling of the attack forces of Israel and those of the enemy with the fleeing civilian population that air strikes would kill as many on one side as the other. Since the U.S. is fully aware of the Israel War Contingency Plan to evacuate as much of the population as possible to the Negev if overrun from the north, it will set in shock and indecision until it is too late to do anything except help to evacuate some of the coastal population from Tel Aviv to Haifa

into the Negev, and to air lift supplies into the Negev. The aircraft of the Islamic nations will be under orders not to fire on western power’s aircraft unless fired upon, because the one thing they will not want is for the U.S. to get actively engaged with them in an all out war.

Once Israel has evacuated as much of its population into the Negev as possible, and the U.S. sees that the Arabs are not going past Beersheva, we will accept the status quo as best for all. Why? Because it will satisfy our NATIONAL INTEREST! How? Israel will be safe and we will still be able to receive Arab Oil shipments.

Revelation 12:5,6 – And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all NATIONS with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne. [6] And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that THEY should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

NATIONS in verse 5 is the precedent to THEY in verse 6. This is the beginning of the final 1260 days that lead up to the final battle of Armageddon, and at this time only 10 Arab nations are involved, so nations such as the U.S., Great Britain, Australia, and Canada will air lift all sorts of supplies into the Negev for Israel, and the Arab nations won’t do a thing to stop it because they will not want to be involved in a world war at this time.

Revelation 12:14 – And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.

Seventy percent of the total Jewish population of Israel exists in the narrow coastal strip from Tel Aviv to Haifa. The western powers (symbolized as uncircumcised Philistines) will air lift many from this area into the Negev, flying first toward the west over the Mediterranean, then southeast over the Sinai into the Negev. After 1260 days Israel will storm north, northeast, and east out of the Negev, driving deep into Syria, and across all of Jordan to the Euphrates River, and will thus claim the Abrahamic Land Grant given to Abraham.

Isaiah 11:14 – But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them. (See Prophecy Update Number 71)

Micah 5:6 – And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.

Down through the last 200 years we have built up a picture of an antichrist who rises slowly to power over a moderate period of time, then signs a peace treaty that lasts for 3 and ½ years, only to break it at that time to start the final 1260 days of the tribulation period.

I agree that he attacks Israel to begin the final 1260 days of the tribulation period, but am persuaded what is pictured before the attack is largely manufactured on misinterpretation of Daniel 9:27, an error of early 1800. The rise of antichrist will be quick, as will be the events that follow his appearance. So I am saying that whenever he comes on the scene it will not be a long, drawn out affair from his appearance until his demise. In Prophecy Updates Numbers 55, 56, 57, and 58 I outlined the view that was held by most theologians before 1830, which is the belief I hold today.

In Chapter 38 of Ezekiel, in verses 2 through 6, it identifies the groupings of those peoples who will initially attack Israel from the north. But in verse 13 it identifies groupings of peoples that will not attack Israel at this time.

Ezekiel 38:13 – Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil

?

The closest thing to which I can relate their two questions in today’s modern vernacular is what we would identify as being a “diplomatic protest.”

You may check all reference sources available today as to the location of the descendants of Sheba and Dedan in 600 B.C., when this prophecy was written, and you will find they are almost unanimous that it represents modern day Saudi Arabia.

I believe Saudi Arabia will be as surprised as the United States when Israel is attacked. I also believe Egypt, who is attacked by the antichrist after he drives Israel into the Negev, will also be shocked by his attack on Israel, and then on themselves.

Daniel 11:42 – He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.

The descendants of Tarshish were sea faring men. According to most historians they first established colonies along the coasts of the Mediterranean, then along the coasts of western and northern France, and finally along the coasts of Denmark and Sweden. As such they could represent what we call Europe, and all the western nations, which were established out of European nations, could be “the young lions thereof.”

So I expect the only part that the United States will play in this war will be to violently diplomatically protest, protest, protest, and then protest some more. I believe we will air lift many into the Negev to satisfy our NATIONAL INTEREST vested

in our large Jewish population, and will continue to air lift all sorts of supplies into them for a long time. I believe we will not attack in order to prevent a massive outcry of American motherhood

in a fantastic body bag count, which is not in the NATIONAL INTEREST, and the loss of Arab oil would most assuredly not be in our NATIONAL INTEREST.

One day, when I kept banishing around this term we identified as NAT

IONAL INTEREST in the agency, I was asked, would you define NATIONAL INTEREST. Now, this is NOT the agency definition, it is mine!

NATIONAL INTEREST IS WHAT WILL ALLOW A PARTY TO STAY IN OFFICE OR TO GET IN OFFICE. IT WAS NOT THAT WAY IN THE BEGINNING, BUT THAT’S THE WAY IT IS NOW, AND IT WILL STAY THAT WAY UNTIL JESUS RETURNS.

How About a More Realistic Axis with Five Spokes – Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, and Syria

into one that must end in a final confrontation with the five spoke axis, and it is apparent that the five nations are bonding together for that economic, political, and military confrontation, which will last until the final day when the fullness of this present Gentile Age comes in.

I Thessalonians 5:3,4 – For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. [4] But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Romans 11:25-27 – For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in. Despite the diplomatic efforts, Rumsfeld did not retreat from his assessment of Iran. In doing so, Russia and China came under criticism for allowing Iran’s involvement in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

The group, which includes Russia, China and four Central Asian nations, was founded to build confidence among the member nations and grapple with militant Islamic groups.

Iran’s president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was invited to the annual summit in Shanghai this month. Iran is an observer to group and has applied for full membership.

Rumsfeld said he finds it “passing strange” to bring the “leading terrorist nation in the world into an organization that says it’s against terror.”

When Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced in mid-May that Ahmadinejad would attend the summit, he said, “We cannot isolate Iran or exert pressure on it. Far from resolving this issue of proliferation, it will make it more urgent.”

On Iraq, Rumsfeld told military leaders at the conference that opposition to the U.S. presence in Iraq will not force the U.S. to leave the country prematurely. He said the world eventually would understand that American troops are not in Iraq to take over oil fields, as some critics have suggested.

“We don’t intend to occupy that country for any period of time,” Rumsfeld said in response to a question from the audience.

“Our troops would like to go home and they will go home.”

“And they will go home at a pace when we’re able, along with our friends and allies with the coalition, of passing off responsibility to the Iraqi security forces, so they can pull up their socks and take responsibility for their own country.”

On other topics, Rumsfeld:

_said he believes China will become more open about its military buildup.

This issue dominated last year’s military conference.

He said other countries have a right to understand why China is expanding its military and there could be repercussions if China does not explain itself.

_defended Pakistan’s efforts to fight terrorism, including growing problems with violent insurgents who travel across the border into Afghanistan.

_warned that although security cooperation among nations in Southeast Asia is expanding, it could be set back if China, Russia and North Korea do not become more open and less threatening.

THE SALADIN COMPLEX – JERUSALEM WILL FALL!

Saladin was a 12th century Kurdish Muslim warrior from Tikrit, in present day northern Iraq, who founded the Ayyubid dynasty of Egypt, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, Mecca Hejaz and Diyar Bakr. He was also renowned in both the Christian and Muslim worlds for his leadership and military prowess during his struggle against the Crusaders.

Islam has been crying out for a great Islamic leader like Saladin to rise and lead them to a great victory over what they consider modern day crusaders, that are once again trying to capture the land given to them by Allah.

While I am as pleased as anyone that Zarqawi has gone to his eternal abode, I am positive the Middle East Saladin and Mahdi dreams will become even stronger, and Zarqawi will be revered throughout the halls of Islam.

His death, the more it is cheered by the free world, will proportionately inflame the desire for vengeance aga
