THE LAST THREE AND ONE-HALF YEARS OF THE TRIBULATION PERIOD
Daniel 11:40,41 – And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries,
and shall overflow and pass over. [41] He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.
Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
Daniel 11:42,43 – He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape. [43] But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
Isaiah 29:6 – Thou shalt be visited of the Lord of hosts with thunder, and with earthquake, and great noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of devouring fire.
Revelation 6:12 – And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
Luke 21:11 – And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.
Daniel 11:45 to 12:1 – And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him. [1] And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
Zechariah 14:5 – And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach unto Azal: yea, ye shall flee, like as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the Lord my God shall come, and all the saints with thee.
Daniel 12:2 – And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. [3] And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.
Zechariah 14:9 – And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.

Scores killed as Syrian forces attack rebel town

At least 80 people are reported dead in Hama and more than 65 people have been killed in various other Syrian regions as armed rebels trying to overthrow the Syrian authorities stormed state agencies and police stations in the city of Hama early on Sunday
According to Reuters news agency, at least 80 people have been killed in the Hama assault, which some witnesses have already called a ‘massacre’.
Al Jazeera television has quoted Syria’s National Organisation for Human Rights as saying that 136 people have been killed in Hama and three other cities on Sunday as the government escalates its crackdown on protesters.
However, there are conflicting reports on the exact number of those killed.
According to witnesses, tank shells slammed into Hama streets just before dawn on Sunday, killing and wounding many. Human rights observers are predicting that the death toll is set to rise, AP news agency reports.
According to AP, Hama residents met tanks with firebombs, stones and sticks. Witnesses said that hospitals are overwhelmed with casualties and are seeking blood donations.
The Hama attack comes as part of the government’s crackdown on protesters, who are urging President Bashar al-Assad to step down before the holy month of Ramadan starts in Syria on Monday.
Al Jazeera quoted Syria-b ased rights activist Mustafa Osso
as saying that some 4,000 people have been arrested in raids against the opposition in the past week.
An estimated 1,600 civilians have reportedly been killed in the crackdown on demonstrators since the rallies against Assad’s regime started in March.
The demonstrators are demanding that Basher al-Assad step down from his post.
“Unless there is change, the bloodshed will continue”
Sabah Al-Mukhtar, the president of the Arab Lawyers Association, believes the unrest in Syria will continue as the regime of President Bashar Assad does not seem to
believe that it can change.
“It talks about change, but it’s not doing it,” he says, “Unless there is this change, the bloodshed will continue.”
The required changes do not seem to be acceptable
to date, he observes, saying that there must be actual change of personnel in the higher echelons of Syria, in the army, in the party, in the government.
Al-Mukhtar also thinks that the Syrian government cannot stop the use of force as it believes that it can stop the revolution.
“But in fact it is just fueling it more and more,” he explains.
He also stresses that interference from the outside world is likely to be counter-productive unless it is directed properly, and goes on to question whether the United States has the right to doubt the legitimacy of the Syrian president.
Al-Mukhtar points out that the US seems to interfere selectively, choosing to get involved in Syria and Libya, while appearing reluctant to do so in Yemen, Bahrain and other countries engulfed by unrest. However, the West and the international community can assist the Syrian regime with an exit policy, which would require practical steps rather than just statements and changing of laws.
Al-Mukhtar believes the Syrian people may be satisfied if the regime reduces the use of force and removes some military figures and government officials.
“But the regime does not seem to be doing that. And the West and the world seem to be content with condemning and making these wild, crazy statements whether the regime is legitimate or not,” he concludes.

EU extends sanctions on Syria, warns of more

Syrian tanks shell Hama for second day, killing 4; Ashton warns sanctions will continue “should [Assad government] persist in current path”; UN Security Council to hold emergency meeting.
European Union extended sanctions against Syrian President Bashar Assad’s government on Monday, imposing asset freezes and travel bans on five more people associated with a bloody crackdown on dissent.
In announcing the step, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton warned there could be further sanctions “should the Syrian leadership persist in its current path”.

She also welcomed the fact that the UN Security Council would hold an emergency session on Syria later on Monday and said the world body should act.
“It is time for the Security Council to take a clear stand on the need to end the violence,” she said in a statement.
Formal approval of new sanctions, drawn up by the 27 EU governments last week, came after the bloc accused Syria of an indiscriminate “massacre” of civilians in the town of Hama at the weekend.
Rights activists said 80 civilians were killed in Sunday’s tank-backed assault on Hama, where Assad’s father crushed an armed Muslim Brotherhood revolt 29 years ago by razing neighbourhoods and killing many thousands of people.
Tanks shelled a northeastern district of Hama on Monday, killing at least four more civilians, residents said.
Reed Brody, a spokesman for Human Rights Watch, criticised countries including Russia, China, South Africa, India and Brazil for blocking United Nations sanctions.
“These countries have blood on their hands,” he said, adding that the Syrian people were paying the price for what was perceived as an “endless” foreign intervention in Libya.
“So China and Russia and these countries are saying ‘Oh no, we are not signing up again’ but the problem is that by refusing to act they are allowing the massacres to continue. So the Syrian people are paying for the mistakes being made in Libya.”
The EU has already imposed sanctions on Assad and 29 others, three of them Iranian military commanders, and has also targeted military-linked firms linked to the suppression of dissent. Monday’s statement did not name the new individuals targeted.
Ashton c alled on Syri
a to allow freedom of expression and assembly, release all political prisoners and institute a genuine and inclusive national dialogue.
“The brutal violence creates a serious risk of escalating tension and factional divisions and is not consistent with broad reforms,” she said.

Barak: Assad’s ‘fate has been sealed’
By OREN KESSLER

EU extends sanctions on Syria, warns of more; Syrian leader: Golan will return to Damascus’ control.
Bashar Assad’s “fate is sealed,” Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Monday, as the European Union ramped up sanctions against key members of the Syrian president’s regime. The beefed-up sanctions come as the Assad regime continued its two-day siege of the iconic city of Hama that has left at least 84 people dead.
“He can hold out a few more weeks, just on inertia,” Barak told members of his Atzmaut Knesset faction, “but I don’t think he’ll be able to last for long.”
The defense minister added, however, that Assad’s ouster would not necessarily be a positive development for Israel. “None of us knows who might replace him, but we’re monitoring all the implications of what’s happening there,” he said, according to Army Radio.
“Assad will fight until the last Syrian,” said Mordechai Kedar, an expert at Bar-Ilan University’s Begin-Sadat Center and author of the 2006 book “Assad in Search of Legitimacy.” “Sanctions won’t even touch the last hair on his head.
Right now he’s struggling for his survival – for himself as a human being, for his family, his clan and his sect. The fight is to the death, to the last breathe,” Kedar said.
