In Balaam’s final parable to Balak he laid out what Israel would do to the peoples bordering on the Dead Sea to its east, southeast, and south quadrant during the latter days.
Numbers 24:14 – And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.
The lives of the Son of David the Son of God are so intertwined in prophecy in deed it is, at times, difficult to tell when it is referring
to David or to Jesus or to both.
Some writers believe Numbers 24:17-22 refers to David, others to Christ, and some to both..
I believe his parable he took up in Numbers 24:23,24 refers to the time of the final battle of Armageddon.
Numbers 24:23,24 – And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God doeth this! [24] And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.
Daniel 11:40 occurs when Israel is initially attacked, at which time the ships of Islam and Israel will engage. Armageddon occurs some three and one-half years later.
Daniel 11:40 – And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, AND WITH MANY SHIPS; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass
over.

The last parable Balaam issued in Numbers concerning future events in the Middle East has to do with the final battle of Armageddon at the close of the Age of the Gentiles. I do not believe the navies of the world powers will actively engage until the very last battle of Armageddon, which will be one single horrific battle that will end at Christ’s Second Advent.
Numbers 24:23-25 – And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God doeth this! [25] And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak also went his way.
The ships of Russia, America, Great Britain, and France will literally blanket the Mediterranean Sea during the tribulation period, but will not actively join in the final war between Islam and Israel until the final battle of it, which will be the great battle of Armageddon.
The Russians have been setting these Syrian ports up for some time now, as the old February 25, 2006 Blog indicates.

As I detailed in Archive Prophecy Update Numbers 27 and 28, the many
descendants of Magog, at the time of Ezekiel’s writings, covered that part of the globe we now identify as Russia. Russian will be a part of the many nations that come down to attack Israel at the final battle of Armageddon, but it will not be a part of the attack of 10 Arab nations that come to attack the Israelis some three and one-half years before Armageddon.
Russia, the European Union, China, Eurasia, and Africa will be invited by the Assyrian Antichrist to be active partners in the final great battle of Armageddon against Israel in the Negev. The vast world oil reserves of the Middle East will be too much of a temptation for them to ignore. Please take a look in our Archives at Prophecy Updates 27 and 28, which were issued in the Spring of 2001.
The following excusive article, from the DEBKAfile Report, is another indicator of Russia’s desire to receive a piece of the pie that eventually is cut out of the Middle East oil fields.

A task force led by the Moskva and the Azov landing ship became the first Russian naval force in a decade to call at a Syrian port.
DEBKAfile’s military sources report: The force sailed out of its home port
of Sevastopol on the Black Sea, on Feb. 5, to join a NATO-led anti-terrorist operation in the Mediterranean for a combined three-month drill focusing on combating the smuggling of weapons of mass destruction, illegal weapons trade and migration.
The drill is named The Active Endeavors Operation. NATO leaders and US army chiefs were keen enough on Russian participation for NATO secretary general Jaap de Hoop Scheffer to promise the gesture of the first visit by an alliance chief aboard the Moskva. However, neither he nor the Americans taking part in the exercise had any idea that the Russian naval force intended to break away from the exercise long enough to put in at a Syrian port – a call which Syrian president Bashar Assad took as a gesture of support from Moscow.
The visit underlined the Kremlin’s plan to play a larger part in the military affairs of the Middle East, largely by making friendly overtures to America’s adversaries. President Vladimir Putin’s invitation to discuss arms sales in Moscow with an invited Hamas delegation was part of this picture.
The Moskva missile cruiser was built in 1982 to hunt down and destroy aircraft carriers.
It underwent major repairs which were completed in 2000. It carries a 510-man crew and its main armament is the Bazalt cruise missile, which weighs 6 tons, has a speed of Mach 2.5 and range of 550 km. The 186.5-meter vessel can carry either a nuclear warhead or a 500-kilo conventional one. Its S300f anti air system stretches over the Moskva an aerial umbrella with a 75 kilometer radius. It is also equipped to fight submarines. On Feb. 15, in the course of the NATO drill, the Moskva captured the British destroyer the Nottingham when it played the part of the enemy. The Russian cruiser also seized the Spanish frigate Navarro.

Russia builds key naval HQ in Syria: Missile presence worries Israel

A high-ranking Russian navy source reported July 21 that the Soviet-era naval maintenance base near Tartus in Syria is to be expanded and modernized to become “fully operational.” DEBKAfile’s military sources report that Russian is building the facility up as its main sea base for operations in four seas: The Atlantic and Indian Oceans and the Mediterranean and Red Seas. The upgrade of Russian port facilities at Tartus, its only foothold in the Mediterranean, will automatically enhance Moscow’s strategic interests in Syria and Bashar Assad’s regime.
The Russian source said that the 50 naval personnel and three berthing floats currently deployed at Tartus with accommodation for up a dozen warships will be beefed up with a new berthing float delivered by two tugboats from the Black Sea Fleet. DEBKAfile’s sources disclose that those warships will include large vessels such as the nuclear-armed guided missile cruiser Peter the Great and the aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, which called in at Tartus in January.
In September 2008, DEBKAfile first disclosed that the Russian Navy commander Adm. Vladimir Vysotsky and his Syrian counterpart Gen.
Taleb al-Barri, had signed contracts for converting Tartus into one of Russia’s most highly-developed naval infrastructures outside its territory. Its warships based there will capable of reaching the Red Sea through the Suez Canal and the Atlantic through the Strait of Gibraltar in a matter of days.
Israel is deeply concerned, according to our military sources, by the sophisticated air-defense S-300PMU-2 and Iskander-E missile systems the Russians propose to hand Syria on the pretext of installing a shield to defend the facility against air or missile attack. Moscow claims they will remain under the control of Russian crews but, according to information reaching Israel, they will be quietly and gradually handed over to the Syrian army; the Russian teams are in fact instructors.
Russia justifies this, according to DEBKAfile’s Moscow sources, by the deployment of the highly sophisticated American FBX-T missile-interception radar systems at the Israeli Negev base of Nevatim.
Furthermore, Moscow will have its rejoinder for the disputed US deployment of missile interceptors in Eastern Europe. As we reported last September, the Russian Black Sea fleet and new Mediterranean-based warships will coordinate their operations under a single command. They are designed as counter-deployments to the post-Georgian-war US and NATO naval presence in the Black Sea as well as its fleets in other parts of the Mediterranean including Israel’s shores.

Daniel 11:43 – But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians shall be at his steps.
We closed Part 3 with the antichrist in full control of Egypt in verse 43, after having driven the woman Israel into the Negev Wilderness, where she will remain for 3 and ½ prophetic years, or 1260 days. The woman will be made up of 1/3 of the Israel population (1.8 to 2.0 million) surviving his initial drive to Beersheva.
Zechariah 13:8 – And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lord, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
While Israel is boxed in the Negev for 3 and ½ years, the city of Cairo will be his capital, and the center of his empire. He would be a fool to return to his home in Syria.
Cairo is the midpoint of an Islamic world that stretches far to the east from Morocco to India, with a long shoreline extending along the entire southern coastline of the Mediterranean Sea to the southern coastline of the Black Sea, along both sides of the Red Sea and Persian Gulf, and eventually to the coastline of India. The political, economic, and military position of Cairo will meet all his requirements and he will rule his empire from Cairo. His influence in Europe, Africa, Eurasia, and Asia will be extremely strong, and by the end of his 3 and ½ years in Cairo, all of this area will politically be in his pocket. It is in this area that I believe the mark of the beast will be readily accepted, particularly in all the Islamic countries. It is also in this area that I believe the most horrific events of the Tribulation Period will occur.
I believe he will have influence in the western hemisphere, but I do not believe he will rule it.
After 3 and ½ years of dominating the nations of Europe and the eastern hemisphere, he will receive news out of the north and out of the east that troubles him.
Daniel 11:44 – But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly
to make away many.
This was written in 600 B.C. Every time a great leader would arise in the east, his country would be identified as the one the antichrist would go forth to destroy with great fury, and to carry away many. Genghis Khan, the great Mongol ruler of one of the greatest empires in history, was believed to be the object in the east that was going to trouble the antichrist in A.D. 1200 to 1227. Attila, king of the Huns, from A.D. 441 to 450 claimed domination from the Alps and the Baltic to the Caspian Sea. He was labeled the Scourge of God, and was looked upon as being the source of bad news from the north that would trouble the antichrist. With the advent of the rise of the two great powers, the Soviet Union in the north, and China in the east, it was only natural that expositors would pick them as the culprits causing the bad news from the north and east. Now, it is supposed to be Russia and China. I do not doubt that both Russia and China will be among the nations that attack Israel at the final battle of Armageddon, but I do not believe one has to go all the way to Russia and China to find the source of the news that is troubling the antichrist.
Get an atlas with a map that has Cairo, Russia, and China on it and consider how far away the antichrist will be from Russia and China. Now consider this: the population of Russia is 150 million plus, and the population of China is 1 billion, 300
million plus. Now, look again at this scripture.
Daniel 11:44 – But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.
If he proceeds forth from Cairo, with great fury to attack China and Russia, that’s quite a few folks “to destroy, and to make away many.”
I do not believe you have to look thousands of miles to the east, and thousands of miles to the north, to find the source of the news that troubles the antichrist. Just look directly east of the city of Cairo and you will see the Negev Wilderness where he left the children of Israel some three years before, and then look to the north and you will see that portion of the Mediterranean Sea extending to the southern shores of Turkey. Those are the two locations from which the bad news will radiate.
Some three years before the antichrist heavily fortified the zone along the northern border of the Negev north of Beersheva in order to prevent a breakout by the Israelis. But the narrow zone that is marked today by the Gaza Strip begins to look vulnerable to him because of the news he hears from the north and the east.
The U.S. Navy has a frequent publication titled TRANSITIONS – All the Ships at Sea. It gives the location of the fleet on a specific date. You will discover from it that a U.S. carrier, and fighter attack squadron are routinely kept in the Mediterranean between Egypt and Turkey, and that at times it may consist of cruisers, destroyers, attack submarines, frigates, and support ships. In a recent mission in this area there were some 15,000 sailors and marines on these ships. During the last 25 years there have been some 18 episodes of U.S. marines conducting joint exercises with the IDF in the Negev. What the antichrist hears is that the U.S. and the IDF may be planning to cut off his rear flank back to his home country by conducting a military operation in the Gaza Strip.
With the marines conducting an amphibious landing on the south of the Gaza Strip, and the IDF driving northwest to join them, they would do what no military commander wants to happen, that is, have his rear flank cut off from direct access to his major source of land supplies. The Scripture does not say whether what he hears is true or untrue, merely that what he hears troubles him. I would imagine it is only a rumor, but apparently he believes it enough to take the appropriate response.
He heads for the city of Jerusalem, super reinforcing the Gaza Strip on his way, and sets himself up to issue a call for all nations to come and help him do what he could not do to Israel some 3 and ½ years before. He calls for all the nations of Europe, Eurasia, Asia, and Africa to come and help him to “go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many” Israelis in the Negev Wilderness.
Daniel 11:44,45 – But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many. [45] And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.

‘Syria and Iran to cooperate on naval training’

Announcement comes same day of reports that Russia intends to complete transfer of cruise missiles to Syria.
Iran and Syria have agreed to cooperate on naval training, Iran’s official news agency said on Saturday, Reuters reported.
“The two parties will cooperate with each other in training issues and the exchange of personnel,” IRNA quoted the agreement, signed by the commanders of both navies, as saying, according to the report.
The agreement came days after two Iranian warships – the Khark, which has 250 crew members and can carry three helicopters, and the Alvand, which is armed with torpedoes and anti-ship missiles – arrived at Syria’s Latakia seaport on Thursday, sailing through the Suez Canal and into the Mediterranean.
The announcement of the cooperation agreement came the same day that Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said that Russia would fullfill its contractual obligation and complete the transfer of cruise missiles to Syria, according to AFP.
According to the report, news agencies in Moscow said the Kremlin did not intend to withdraw from the deal signed between the two countries in 2007, despite the objections of Israel and the United States.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak said in an interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Thursday, that the two Iranian naval vessels crossing the Suez Canal was a show of power and part of a “wider scheme” to exert influence in the Middle East. The ships’ crossing was the first time the Islamic Republic has sent a naval convoy through the Suez Canal in over three decades.
Barak said that, “I don’t like it, but I don’t think that any one of us should be worried by it.”
The defense minister commented that Iran was trying to assert their power in the region by sending ships to the Syrian port, and that the move was nothing more than them “projecting…self-confidence and certain assertiveness in the region.” Despite reports that Iran may have been bringing advanced weaponry to Hezbollah in Lebanon, Barak suggested that the focus of the trip is for Iranian cadets to visit Syria.
