Rita in the West and Damrey in the East
More Storm and Tempest
September 26, 2005
The rampage of Rita in the West is now being followed by the strongest typhoon to hit China’s southern resort city on the tropical island of Hainan in 32 years.
Almost a half million people were evacuated.
The winds reached 125 miles per hour and damaged more than 2,500 ho mes
.
Damrey is currently headed for Vietnam, where it is expected to dump heavy rains on more than 10 northern and central provinces.
I will never forget wading in water up to my armpits in the tempest of rainstorms like this in Vietnam while watching jeeps disappear in front of me.
