As was outlined in the two previous prophecies concerning the Song of Moses, it was a preview of coming attractions through which Israel was to pass from the time of the death of Moses
to the time when the Age of the Fullness of the Gentiles would come in. Because they did not have an interest in studying and understanding the Scriptures delivered to them by the prophets God sent
to them, it was only natural that they would not recognize Messiah when he arrived, and would reject him, because he did not meet their own traditional expectations of what he was sent to accomplish for them as a people. And yet the pre-incarnate personage of Christ as the Rock of Israel had been with Israel from the very beginning.
Yet they were unmindful of his character, which was
the same as the one who had formed them. Messiah was the same God who followed them as their spiritual Rock in all of their wanderings.
DEUTERONOMY 32:18 – Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.
I Corinthians 10:4,5 – And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. [5] But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
John 1:11 – He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
Israel rejected him as their Messiah because they had repeatedly provoked God’s sons and daughters he had sent to them over and over again to advise Israel of the character of their coming Messiah. Because they would not receive their testimony, but consistently provoked them, and then rejected the one of whom they testified, God abhorred them, and made them, and their temple, spiritually desolate before him.
DEUTERONOMY 32:19 – And when the Lord saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters.
Matthew 23:37,38 – O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
[38] Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
God has hidden his face from Israel for over 1900 years, they are a faithless nation in the true Messiah, and will not put their faith in him until after they have been sent into the Negev wilderness, fleeing from their enemies. In the Negev, near
the Second Advent of their Messiah, all Israel will put their faith in Jesus Christ as the Messiah.
DEUTERONOMY 32:20 – And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith.
Matthew 23:39 – For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall
say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Israel stumbled over the Rock, the Stone of God, who he sent to save them from their sins. But in the nation of the Gentiles, whom the Jews think to be a foolish nation of heathen, many have received him as the Messiah, the Son of the living God, and have been saved by his grace.
DEUTERONOMY 32:21 – They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with
their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people: I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
Israel stumbled over the Rock, the Stone that God laid as the cornerstone of salvation for all men who would receive him as their redeemer. He was sent to Israel, but they rejected him.
God has concluded them all in the unbelief of his Son as their Messiah, but they will finally believe as a nation in the Negev wilderness.
Romans 11:32 – For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
I Peter 2:6-10 – Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. [7] Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, [8] And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. [9] But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: [10] Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
Romans 2:28,29 – For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: [29] But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
