SONG OF MOSES LATTER DAY SERIES – NUMBER 2

As I indicated
in our Song of Moses Number 1, the song was introduced in Chapter 31 of the book of Deuteronomy, and presented in Chapter 32. Moses was about to die, and God
gave him a historical account of what was to befall Israel from that time to the “latter days,” when the fullness of the Gentile Age would end.
Deuteronomy 31:28 to 32:5 – Gather unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to record against them. [29] For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you and evil will befall you IN THE LATTER DAYS; because ye will do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands. [30] And Moses spake in the ears of all the congregation of Israel the words of this song, until they were ended.
[1] Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. [2] My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: [3] Because I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. [4] He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he. [5] They have corrupted themselves their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation.
Time after time, from the Egyptian exodus, through the exile and return from Babylonian captivity,
and then in Roman bondage, they corrupted themselves again and again in failing to follow his doctrinal teachings that fell from heaven through the words of the prophets. They were repeatedly punished for failing to see their God as the unchanging Rock, as the God of truth, and without iniquity.
By the time their God came as their Messiah, because they did not study the words of the prophets, they failed to recognize him as the Son of God, in who dwelt the fullness of God, without iniquity. As a crooked and perverse nation they crucified their own Messiah, and received him not as the Rock of their salvation.
John 1:11 – He came unto his own, and his
own received him not.
I Corinthians 10:4,5 – And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. [5] But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
By the time their true Messiah Jesus Christ arrived, they had become a spiritually foolish people toward God, trusting in their own wisdom and works of the law to bring them salvation.
Deuteronomy 32:6 – Do ye thus requite the Lord, O foolish people and unwis
e? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?
They foolishly rejected the one who made them, and then crucified him, the Word, the Logos, the living God of all Israel, who came to them in a tabernacle of flesh.
John 1:1-4 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. [2] The same was in the beginning with God.
[3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. [4] In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
They foolishly refused to honor him as God’s Son, the Messiah, by failing to come to him as the only Rock who could save them. They foolishly believed they could keep God’s standard of righteousness that was in the law, but only God himself could keep every jot and tittle of his own standard of righteousness, and God kept it as God in the body of the man, the Messiah, Christ Jesus.
John 5:39-41 – Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. [40] And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life. [41] I receive not honour from men.
Matthew 5:17,18 – Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
[18] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Christ perfectly fulfilled every jot and tittle of the Law of Moses, the Law of God. He came into the world without sin, being the Son of God, formed by his Father in the womb of the Virgin Mary. He is the only man who ever fully pleased God,
who indwelt him in all his fullness. He fulfilled all that was necessary for God to be just, and the justifier of all who put their faith in his Son for the total salvation of their souls. He finished all the work on the cross at Golgotha.
John 19:30 – When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Today, Israel is still a foolish nation concerning their own Messiah, but they are not alone, most of the world today agrees with them, in that they will not believe that Christ was crucified for their sins, and will not put their faith in him alone to save them from eternal damnation.
Deuteronomy 32:6 – Do ye thus requite the Lord, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?
I Corinthians 18-23 – For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. [19] For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. [20] Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world
? [21] For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. [22] For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: [23] But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;
Is your faith in Christ crucified for your sins, and in his being alive to keep you safe from hell forever
? Is that enough faith for God to be just in saving your soul eternally
? That is a saving faith that stands in the power of God, and Christ’s righteousness is the only righteousness that God will accept as your justification before him!
I Corinthians 2:2,5 – For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. [5] That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
Romans 3:26 – To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
