The Palestinian Parliament was sworn in today with Hamas as majority party, having 74 elected seats as compared
to 45 for Fatah.
According to an article by Wafa Amr in a Reuter’s press release, Hamas said it would present its own new peace proposal to Israel that would include a long-term truce with Israel if the Jewish state fulfilled
its demands, such as giving back all the West Bank land it seized in 1967.
I took my last tour group to Israel in 1999.
I immediately s topped when the Intifada began in 2000, and have been waiting for six years for a situation
to arise where I could again take a group without concern of a possible danger to them.
I believe that time has arrived.
Ham as needs time to establish itself
as a government, in other words, to take a break from terror attacks, a time of quiet, which they refer to as a hudna.
So I am t
aking a tour group to Israel in July.
According to Umdat as-Salik, hudnas with a non-Muslim enemy should be limited to 10 years: “if Muslims are weak, a truce may be made for ten years if necessary, for the Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) made a truce with the Quraysh for that long, as is related by Abu Dawud” (‘Umdat as-Salik, o9.16).
