As I indicated in the previous Blog, the way is being prepared for the security barrier’s path along the eastern foothills of the West Bank’s mountain range (the mountains of Samaria) from the Sea of Galilee to the Dead Sea. The following article, by Rafael D. Frankel from the Jerusalem Post, tells of the linking barrier structure that will come up from the south along the eastern foothills of the Judean mountains to link with the wall described in the previous Blog. The three key words in the Israeli philosophy are UNILATERAL WITHDRAWAL and SEPARATION.
It appears Israel is determined to finish the wall in 2007.

Begin on Final Segment of Security Fence
By Rafael D Frankel, THE JERUSALEM POST

Construction will begin in the coming weeks on the final segment of southern area of the security fence, the Defense Ministry said in a Thursday statement.
The segment will run from Metzadot Yehuda to the fence’s termination point some eight kilometers from the Dead Sea. That segment of the fence runs through the Judean Desert and green groups have expressed concern about possible damage to the environment of the area.
The Defense Ministry statement said it had consulted with the green groups and that environmental considerations were being taken into account. Construction on the segment will likely take the better part of 2006 and may continue into 2007.
