Former IDF Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Uzi Dayan, now retired, began the formation of a new political party last week in Israel.
The party is to be called Tafnit (Change in Direction). The reason I am writing th is BLOG
is not because I expect Tafnit to be the winning party in the March elections. I am writing it because, for the first time, an Israeli leader has announced what the true intent of the long security barrier around The West Bank and Gaza Strip was always intended to be from the time Ariel Sharon began building it in 2002. It was, from the beginning, intended to be the final, internal, international separation border established between the Palestinians and Israelis.
I have always believed it is the only way a temporary period of relative “peace and safety” can ever come to Israel, because there is no way under heaven it can ever happen along a porous border.
Three years before Sharon announced the construction of the security barrier/wall/fence, Dayan first proposed unilateral withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
During the course of Israel’s three wars with Arab nations, it took the Gaza Strip from Egypt, the Golan Heights from Syria, and the huge West Bank from Jordan.
The most significant takeover of all three areas occurred in the 1967 war. I began to discuss the evolution of the long security barrier concept the moment Ariel Sharon announced it because I had vague recollections of the old Yigal Allon separation plan, which he had put forward a month after Israel drove Jordan out of the West Bank.
Even though I had only hazy recollections of it, I did draw a diagram of how I thought Ariel Sharon’s final barrier might appear if it followed the general separation borders proposed by Yigal Allon.
The initial reference to the old Yigal Allon Plan may be found in Archive Prophecy Update Number 62D, and the first diagram is pictured in Number 65C.
Incidentally, the year on the diagram should be 2002, not 2001, which I corrected at the beginning of Prophecy Update Number 65D.
Basically, the Yigal Allon Plan annexed the Jordan Valley and Judean from the eastern foothills of the mountains of Samaria and Judah to Beersheba – Israel would cede the rest of the West Bank to the nation
of Jordan, from which they took it, and leave a security zone for barrier traffic passage to the West Bank from Jordan through Jericho. The city of Jerusalem and its environs would be annexed by Israel.
This plan was put forward to allow the Palestinians to continue to live under Jordanian rule in the huge West Bank. The Palestinians had come to despise Jordanian rule, and had been a pain in the neck
to Jordan. So, neither Palestinians nor Jordanians accepted the plan.
Yesterday, while scanning the net, I came across the diagram of Allon’s Plan for the West Bank after Israel took it back from Israel. If you are interested in seeing it, it may be found at:
