A Line by Line Exposition of Ezekiel 38 – Part 8

Ezekiel 38:17,18 – Thus saith the Lord God; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them
? [18] And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall
come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord God, that my fury shall come up in my face.
God makes it plain that Gog is a man he has warned Israel and the world about by Israel’s prophets since Genesis. Since Ezekiel indicates he is the chief prince of the descendents making up the tribes of Meshech and Tubal at the time Ezekiel wrote, it may may be one of his parents descended from
Meshech and the other from Tubal. But I admit that is speculation on my part.
Genesis 10:1,2 – Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.
[2] The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog,
and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.
Verse 18 proclaims that God is about to cut loose on an unbelieving world His fury. God’s creation is about to be shaken from one end to the other by geological upheavals associated with God using his own creation, the earth to fulfill his own prophecies by the fury of his own power. His fury will begin with the earthquake in Revelation 6:12, which will trigger a tectonic beginning of earthquake demonstrating his fury across the earth in repeating chains for some three and one-half years. Verses 19 to the end of Ezekiel 38 describe the chains of quakes and volcanic eruptions during this period.
The last, and greatest earthquake since God made man ends the 1260 days of great tribulation, closes the Tribulation Period and the Age of the Gentiles at the final battle of Armageddon. This last great earthquake also occurs in the same Jordan River Valley where the Revelation 6:12 earthquake occurred to begin the 1260 day period of tectonic chaos. This last earthquake is in Revelation 16: 16-21. The results of this earthquake are described in Ezekiel 39.
Ezekiel 38:19 – For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel;
Verse 19 gives a general statement of what will happen in Israel. It will be the greatest shaking the Israelites have ever experienced. The Arabah Fault will shake from Lebanon to the Gulf of Arabah.
Ezekiel 38:20 – So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.
Verse 20 lets us know that the great shaking will not be limited just to Israel with its local Arabah Fault line – it will occur on a worldwide basis along all the thousands of interconnecting fault lines, both on land and on
the sea floor.
Ezekiel 38:21 – And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord God: every man’s sword shall be against his brother.
Verse 21 describes the effect that the great worldwide upheaval will have on mankind – in a word, total m ass confusion
as to foe or friend, amidst fantastic casualty rates.
Ezekiel 38:22 – And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.
Verse 22 paints a picture of the destruction that God will reign down upon Gog and his Islamic army.
It describes the fantastic array of pyroclastic associated materials, which will shower down on the antichrist’s army out of the volcanic activity unleashed.
Ezekiel 38:23 – Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord.
Verse 23 confirms that God has a purpose in all this geological upheaval and destruction – it should leave no doubt as to who is God and who
is antichrist.
