The time has come to speak plainly ab out
the famine and hunger that is now beginning to come on a part of the earth. It is time to offer a full exposition of what I began to warn about some 33 years ago. What you are about to read is proof that the terrifying death toll from the sword (red horse rider), hunger (black horse rider), and pestilence (pale horse rider) will be experienced PRIMARILY across ONE-FOURTH of the LAND surface of the EARTH.
Please carefully consider the following facts concerning Revelation 6:8, especially regarding one single inspired word in it.
Revelation 6:8 – And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto THEM over the fourth part of the EARTH, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
“THEM” in context refers back to the red horse rider of 6:4, the black horse rider of 6:5, and the pale horse rider of 6:8. THEY are killers of mankind by WAR, FAMINE, AND PESTILENCE across a zone made up of ONE FOURTH of the EARTH,
The God-breathed word GES is correctly translated in this verse and the Scripture means exactly what it says – THE FOURTH PART OF THE EARTH – NOT THE FOURTH PART OF THE POPULATION OF MANKIND!
I do not question that much more than one-fourth of the world’s total population of more than six billion will have perished from geologically associated phenomena, and a multiplicity of horrors, by the time the last three and one-half years of the Tribulation Period is finished. But this Scripture says what it means, and should never have been twisted by many expositors to mean one-forth of the world’s total population. I beg of you to consider the following facts concerning all the uses
of GES in the Bible.
The Word GES is translated as EARTH 188 times, as LAND 42 times, as GROUND 18 times, as COUNTRY 2 times, and as WORLD 1 time.
The vast bulk of death by sword (war), hunger (famine), and pestilence (loimos – any deadly infectious disorder), will occur in the Caliphate of the soon coming Antichrist, where his subjects will be required to t ake
his mark or die. The geographical size of his Caliphate will amount to a land mass the size of about one-fourth of the earth’s total land mass.
The Antichrist’s great Caliphate will include all of the African countries composed of Muslim population majorities north of the equator, all the Middle East Countries from the Mediterranean Sea to India, many of the former Soviet Union southern countries that broke off it when it crumbled, and all the southeastern Asia countries to the southeast of India. Israel will be surrounded by it in the Negev Wilderness, but will not be a part of it. I urge you to take a look in our Prophecy Update Archives at Number 135A.
I do not think there will be a famine in the United States, but I believe some rationing is likely, and I know food prices will be so high a lot of us (like myself) are likely to involuntarily lose a lot of blubber. I do not believe the war in the area I just described as the Caliphate, and around its periphery, will extend to the United States, but I do expect riots in this country, and much internal unrest after the next election. I do not believe the mark of the beast will be put on in this country, but before you start quoting scriptures where expressions like “the whole world, all the earth, and wherever men may dwell” are found, make sure you take a look at how God uses inspired hyperboles in His inspired Word. I urge you to take a look in our Prophecy Update Archives at Numbers 77, 77A, 77B, and 77C as to how God uses the Hyperbole in His word.
Back to our title – THE TIME HAS COME TO SPEAK OF BREAD!
Unless God sends massive botanical infections on our wheat, rice and grain crops, we will not be a part of the one fourth of the earth where millions are experiencing death by starvation because of the lack of cereal crops. The three men of war, famine, and pestilence will gallop in a zigzag north-south trek across northern Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.
The rest of the world will also suffer from war, famine, and pestilence in varying degrees, but nothing like what will occur within the Kingdom of the Antichrist.
Why must famine and death increase within the zone identified earlier as the coming Caliphate of the Antichrist
? It is a zone filled with the very rich tyrannical ruling classes and the very poor. The very rich will keep getting richer and the poor will keep getting poorer. It is a zone of generally poor crop production insufficient to feed existing populations. It is a zone of either too much or too little precipitation. It contains many of the world’s undeveloped countries. It has the world’s fastest growing population explosion. This is where the events associated with Revelation 6:8 are going to explode upon mankind. This is the fourth of the earth’s l and mass where the red, black,
and pale horses will gallop and trample its humanity with war, famine, and pestilence. This is the fourth of the earth where the Gospel is the most rejected, and where the chief false god and other false gods are worshipped in mass by millions that walk upon it. This was the known world at the time of Revelation’s writing by John.
It is about a fourth part of the earth’s land surface in the known world of today. The Spiritual headquarters of the Satanic beast will lie across the zone where the Euphrates River flows, and it is from within this fourth part of the earth that most of a hoard of ungodly followers of the false god Allah will be called out to fight the final battle of Armageddon.
Revelation 16:10-16 – And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, [11] And blasphemed the God of heaven because
of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds. [12] And the sixth angel poured out his vial upon the great river Euphrates; and the water thereof was dried up, that the way of the kings of the east might be prepared. [13] And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. [14] For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.
[15] Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame. [16] And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

Matthew 24:7,8 – For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
[8] All these are
the beginning of sorrows.
In previous prophecy updates we have discussed the importance of the word “odin”, which is the Greek word translated “sorrows” in Matthew 24:8. It refers to the birth pangs experienced by a woman in childbirth. So in using this word Jesus indicates they will follow this pattern just before he comes again. A woman’s birth pains begin with a single pain and then continue to increase in frequency and intensity until the child is born. These three phenomena, earthquakes, famine, and pestilence had never, in historical records, followed this pattern until Old Jerusalem and the Temple Mount were taken from the Jordanians in 1967. Since that time all three have developed such a pattern.
In the two previous prophecy updates we covered earthquakes and pestilence. But what about famine, is it also following the same pattern? Absolutely! The population explosion that has suddenly burst on the scene should come as no surprise to mankind. The world’s population has roughly, in somewhat similar manner, followed the principle of daily doubling pennies. Suppose that someone proposed to give you five billion dollars if you would double a penny he gave you for forty days. Would you take the deal? A single penny on the first day would produce two cents on the second day, four cents on the third day, eight cents on the fourth day, sixteen cents on the fifth day, thirty-two cents on the sixth day, sixty-four cents on the seventh day, and only $1.28 on the eighth day. So, based on what you’ve read so far, it seems like a pretty good deal. But on day forty you would have to fork over move than five billion dollars. This principle is now being added into the famine equation.
The world’s famine outbreaks in the developing countries have been occurring closer and closer together in time since World War II, and this trend, like a woman’s birth pangs, will definitely be increasing until Jesus comes. Why? A few thousand years ago eight men and women descended in an ark “upon the mountains of Ararat,” and then began to multiply. At first, like the penny, the increase was slow and insignificant numerically.
When Jesus was born, the world population had only reached about 200 million. When Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492, it had only reached 400 million. But, like the multiplying multiples of the penny, it began to accelerate about the time of the Civil War, and exploded after the Great Depression of the thirties. In 1989 the world population reached five billion and, the same year, eleven million of the earth’s residents died of starvation. The world population passed six billion in October of 1999, and is predicted to reach ten billion in 2030. There is no way under heaven that the developing countries across the Bible Lands of Asia and Africa, where most of this increase is forecast to occur, can fail to have an ever increasing, massive famine. Some say the population will only reach 8.5 billion in 2030. But even if this is true, how can the additional 3.5 billion be fed if 11 million died of starvation in 1989 with a population of only five billion.
In the late seventies, when I wrote my second book, The Tribulation Triad, I pointed out that the famines absolutely had to continue to increase in frequency and intensity. It is even more of a sure thing today! One might suppose that the prediction of thirty million Africans dying from AIDS during the next quarter century, would cause the predicted population growth to be canceled out. Nothing could be farther from the truth! In spite of this staggering AIDS toll, Africa’s population is expected to double during this time period.
Some say, don’t worry, agricultural technology will solve the famine problem. No way! The latest U.N. study found ten percent of the world’s soil profile badly damaged. The three-year study accessed soil conditions on a global scale, and involved more than 250 soil scientists. It marked the first time since World War II that soil profiles had been assessed on a global scale. As reported by Larry B. Stammer in the Los Angeles Times, the study found that “about two-thirds of all seriously eroded land is in Asia and Africa, home to most of the world’s poor.” The article, using the report as its basis, stated: “Despite the much acclaimed green revolution of the past several decades, which produced unprecedented gains in food production through the introduction of fertilizers and hybrid grains, the per-capita food production has declined in about eighty developing countries in the past decade.” The report, Vital Signs 1993: The Trends That Are Shaping Our Future, as reported by David Brisco in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette of July 18, 1993, stated: “This new report shows the first clear sign that population is outpacing the food available for humans. The trend is mostly because of record world population growth, but also reflects a slowdown in decades of increasing food supplies. The main sources of food – farms, ranches, and oceans – all appear to be approaching, or may have reached, their maximum per-capita output, according to Vital Signs 1993.” The simple truth is this, the world’ s maximum food production,
since the mid-nineties, has not been able to keep up with the stork, and the ever increasing population will cause it to fall farther and farther behind. Earthquakes, pestilence, and famine will continue to increase the pain of God’s creation while it awaits the manifestation of his sons at the appearance of his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.
