UN rights council condemns Israel’s actions in Gaza, W. Bank

The UN’s top human rights body on Thursday passed a resolution condemning Israeli military action in Gaza and the West Bank.
The resolution, which also demands the lifting of the blockade on Gaza and calls for international action to protect Palestinian civilians, was proposed by Arab and Muslim countries and passed by 30 votes in favor, with 15 abstentions, during an emergency session of the 47-member UN Human Rights Council.
European countries abstained from the vote on the grounds that the resolution did not address the firing of rockets by Palestinian terrorists into Israel territory.

4,200 balloons placed on UN doorstep

As the United Nations Security Council debated a response to the situation in the Gaza Strip and Sderot, Israel’s New York Consulate held a protest in front of UN headquarters on Thursday, in which they placed 4,200 red balloons on the UN’s doorstep. The number of balloons signified the 4,200 Kassam rockets fired into Israel from Gaza since the 2005 disengagement from the Strip.
The display was meant to raise world awareness to the fact that Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip are part of an effort to end the rocket attacks, the consulate said in a statement.
“Up until this day, every attempt to raise the issue and make it part of the American media’s agenda has been unsuccessful,” Consulate Spokesman David Saranga said.
” The suffering of Gaza residents has received increased attention recently.
The display is intended to emphasize the suffering of the residents of Sderot [and to] illustrate the incessant Kassam rocket attacks, as well as to call on the international community to stop ignoring what is happening in Israel,” Saranga explained.
Meanwhile, as the New York Consulate was staging the protest, five rockets were fired from Gaza into the western Negev. The rockets hit open areas and no casualties were reported.

The United Nations has a majority of nations that are deep in spiritual darkness, who are making decisions based on wisdom of the prince of darkness

the light of truth. But they are not only in darkness, but are in darkness so great it overcomes them to perform unbelievable acts of terror and horror.

Hamas Staged Some of the Gaza Blackouts – Khaled Abu Toameh (Jerusalem Post)
On at least two occasions this week, Hamas staged scenes of darkness as part of its campaign to end political and economic sanctions against Gaza, Palestinian journalists said Wednesday.
Journalists invited to cover the Hamas government meeting were surprised to see Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and his ministers sitting around a table with burning candles. Hamas legislators meeting in Gaza City also sat in front of burning candles.
But some journalists noticed that there was actually no need for the candles because both meetings were being held in daylight.
“They had closed the curtains in the rooms to create the impression that Hamas leaders were also suffering as a result of the power stoppage,” one journalist said. “It was obvious that the whole thing was staged.”

Mahmoud Zahar is one of the most powerful Hamas figures in Gaza. One of the movement’s leading hawks, he displays a deep suspicion of most Westerners.
A New York Times reporter once asked the Islamist, who is a medical doctor, about his field of expertise.
“Thyroids,” Zahar replied. “I’m very good at cutting throats.”

U.S. Blames Hamas for Gaza “Chaos” (DPA)
The U.S. blamed Hamas on Wednesday for the plight of Gazans.
“The Palestinians living in Gaza are living under chaos because of Hamas,” White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.
“The blame has to be placed fully at their feet.”

U.S.: Israel “Defending Itself” with Gaza Blockade (AFP)
The White House said Tuesday that Israel’s blockade of Gaza was an act of self-defense against Palestinian rocket attacks.
“One of the reasons that Israel has taken the action it has is because it was sustaining upwards of 150 rockets falling on its territory a day. And so Israel is defending itself,” said spokeswoman Dana Perino.
