PART 2

For the last forty years I have anxiously waited for the time to arrive when I believed the Middle East situation would unfurl a series of events which would let me have the assurance that the second coming of Christ would be occurring within a reasonable window of time.  I do not know the hour, the day, the week, the month, the seasons (summer, winter, fall or spring), the times (the phases of the moon), or the year.  But I am not a child of darkness, and I know it is drawing near.  It is certainly true that the day of the rapture occurs as a thief in the night, but God’s children should not be overtaken by it.  If a person knew the general time the thief might come, based on information available to him, and his pattern of operation in the area around him, he could make necessary preparations and capture him.  In the New Testament the admonition has continually been “to be ready, to be watching.”  Soon Jesus is coming.  He will capture his children, and take them with him.  We do not want to be spiritually asleep when he comes for us.

I Thessalonians 4:15 to 5:6 – For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. [16] For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. [18] Wherefore comfort one another with these words. [1] But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. [2] For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. [3] For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape. [4] But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. [5] Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. [6] Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

Since I do believe his coming is drawing near, the most important thing to do is to be found growing in faith, hope, and charity in one of his churches when he comes, and for that reason, Lord willing, each week, on the regular Prophecy Update, I will have a continuing series of an exposition of the entire thirteenth chapter of First Corinthians.  This is the first in a length series.  WHEN he comes is not nearly as important as being READY when he arrives.

Charity (Agape) – Love given anticipating no return!

I have heard some teachers tell their classes that the translation of the Greek word “agape” in Corinthians should have been “love,” and I can certainly understand why they say it.  However, I contend that “charity” is able to transmit what “agape” really means.  After one goes through countless lexicons, they all narrow down to the kind of live it is – a love given, which is not based on it ever being returned.  Charity fits that definition to a “T.”  It is love that is just given expecting nothing in return.  Any love it receives in return is based on the gratitude of the one who receives it, which is strictly a voluntary act on their part.  It is given to anyone and everyone, even if they do not want it or appreciate it, it is a gift based on unmerited favor.

I Corinthians 13:13 – And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

Because we believe Jesus was delivered for our offences and resurrected for our justification we are justified by our FAITH in him, and have peace with God eternally through his Son.  We stand eternally secure in the assurance of his everlasting grace, which causes us to rejoice in HOPE of the glory we know we will see in him at his appearing.  As we wait for his appearance, the many tribulations we experience build up patience in us by the many times he delivers us, and in this experience we get from seeing how often he delivers us from our trials and tribulations, we grow to LOVE him because we begin to learn how much he LOVES us.

Romans 4:25 to 5:11 – Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. [1] Therefore being justified BY FAITH, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: [2] By whom also we have access by FAITH into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in HOPE of the glory of God. [3] And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; [4] And patience, experience; and experience, HOPE: [5] And hope maketh not ashamed; because the LOVE of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. [6] For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. [7] For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. [8] But God commendeth his LOVE toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

I Corinthians 13:13 – And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

This kind of love comes from God and is a literal part of God.  This kind of love is more than a characteristic of God, it is his character.  This love shines into born again hearts as the person of God in his Son living in us, and is the treasure we have in earthen vessels of sinful clay.  It is his love in us that allows us to endure all the trials and tribulations that come against us, and allows us to live our lives in sinful flesh by his Son’s faith indwelling us.  The victorious Christian life is one lived by the faith of the Son of God living in us in all our trials.

LOVE IS GOD’S NATURAL CHARACTER!

I John 4:7,8 – Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. [8] He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

CHRIST’S LOVE IS THE TREASURE ALONGSIDE OUR SAVED SOUL THAT SUSTAINS US!

II Corinthians 4:6-11 – For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.  [7] But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. [8] We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; [9] Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; [10] Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. [11] For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

CHRIST’S FAITH LIVING IN US IN ALL OUR TRIALS IS THE WAY WE MANIFEST A CHRISTIAN WALK.

His love, his life, is made manifest in us, by the will of our souls submitting to his, and allowing him to live his life in us.

Galatians 2:20,21 – I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. [21] I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

THE LOVE OF GOD IS NOT LOUD OR BRASSY, IT IS THE WORD OF HIS SON LIVING IN US THAT MANIFESTS A SOUL SUBDUED BY THE LOVE OF HIS WORD.

This process of submission is outlined by Paul in his first epistle to Timothy.

I Timothy 4:13 – Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.

II Timothy 2:15 – Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

I Timothy 3:14,15 – These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly: [15] But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

Ephesians 3:21 – Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end.

John 13:35 – By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, IF YE HAVE LOVE one to another.
