I was delighted to see the article by Daniel Wachs in Ha’aretz, which follows this preamble. I have taught for some 30 years in four books that the earth will move in the Jordan Rift Valley in Israel during the great tribulation period. I do not know if the satellite picture of the rift will transpose onto THE BLOG.

This valley is the valley in which I believe the first and last great quakes in Revelation 6:12 and 16:18,19 will occur, as I have taught for 30 years.

Have No doubt: The Earth Will Move

The earthquake in Pakistan (7.6 on the Richter Scale with an epicenter 90 kilometers from Islamabad) represents a warning of what may happen in Israel.
In comparison, an earthquake in November, 1995, not far from Israel and only a few dozen kilometers south of Eilat, measured 7.2. This indicates that a major earthquake (7 or higher) may well occur along the entire length of the Arava Fault and the Jordan Valley Rift.
In the region where Israel is located, a strong earthquake takes place on average every 80 years. In California, an earthquake of this magnitude takes place on average every 20 years, and due to heightened awareness of the risks involved in a quake, all new buildings in the last 35 years have been c
onstructed according to strict standards, and older buildings were demolished or reinforced. Only a few hundred individuals lost their lives during all of the earthquakes in California in the last few decades. In Turkey, Iran, and Armenia, where seismic activity resembles that in California, such protective construction measures were not adopted, and tens of thousands of people died, aside from massive property damage.
The last earthquake in Israel’s seismic region that caused significant damage to life and property took place in 1927. It measured 6.2 and its epicenter was in the northern Dead Sea. Several hundred people were killed, mainly in Nablus, Ramle, and Lod. In 1837,
there was a stronger earthquake here (estimated magnitude of 7) with an epicenter north of the Sea of Galilee. Thousands were killed, the Jewish Quarter of Safed was destroyed (1,800 deaths), and Tiberias, Nablus, and dozens of small villages in the Galilee region sustained severe damage.
In 1759, an earthquake in southern Lebanon (estimated at 7.5) caused the deaths of tens of thousands of people and did severe damage in southern Lebanon and the Upper Galilee region.
The 1837 and 1927 earthquakes also caused severe damage far from the epicenter because of reactions in geological infrastructure, resulting in increased ground movement under certain conditions. Most major cities in the Coastal Plain are now located on underlying rocky land masses, which are expected to increase ground movement in an earthquake, and many of their structures were not built to withstand an earthquake. Unless they are reinforced, an earthquake stronger than 6.5 is expected to cause these buildings to collapse. It is now 80 years after the last intermediate quake in 1927 and 170 years after the last major quake in 1837.
There seems to very little sand remaining in the hourglass. Still, we refuse to face the danger that awaits us.
In Turkey, until a 7.5 earthquake on August 17, 1999 killed 12,000 people, wounded tens of thousands and left 200,000 homeless, the nation’ s attention focu
sed on security issues.
As a result of that earthquake, Turkey’s priorities have changed and major resources and funds have been diverted to minimizing potential earthquake damage.
President of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf called the earthquake that took place on Saturday “the largest natural disaster which has occurred in the history of the nation.” It is fair to assume that territorial concerns about Kashmir will take a back seat on the national agenda for at least the next few years.
