Daniel 2:41-45 – And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. [42] And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. [43] And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay. [44] And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. [45] Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
Zechariah 14:8,9 – And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. [9] And the Lord shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one Lord, and his name one.
I went down all the tunnels associated with the Silwan environs after the 1967 War before they were completely cleared, and have been down them countless times until my last trip in this century. I enjoyed seeing the archeological work advance on each trip to the Silwan site, as well as the clearing of the northern extension tunnel of the Wailing Wall, Zechariah’s Cave, and the long tunnel from the Damascus Gate under the Scarp Fault extending to the Jewish Section of the Old City of Jerusalem. I have spent almost as much time under Jerusalem than I have on its surface.

Israel has approved a controversial archaeology project in East Jerusalem, the Interior Ministry said Friday, in a move likely to compound tensions threatening to scuttle peace talks with the Palestinians. The ministry “heard objections” from the Palestinians and from residents to the plans to build a visitor center just outside Jerusalem’s Old City walls in the Arab neighbourhood of Silwan, a statement said. However it granted approval to the project on grounds that it “will show important archaeological discoveries to the public.”

As a tourist attraction, this will contribute to the development of the city of Jerusalem,” the ministry added. The Silwan neighbourhood, where the 1,200 square meter (13,000 square foot) complex is to be built, is already home to dozens of Jewish settler families who live under heavy guard among their Arab neighbors.Arab residents charge that the new visitor center fails to take account of their needs and is an attempt to further strengthen the Jewish presence in Silwan.
Last March, the Palestinian news agency Ma’an reported that the Israel Antiquities Authority destroyed a number of archeological sites and antiques fter conducting a dig in the neighborhood of Silwan.

Silwan is a predominantly Arab neighborhood on the outskirts of the Old City of Jerusalem.[1] Forty Jewish families also live in the area. Silwan is located in East JerusalemAfter 1948 Palestine War, the village fell under Jordanian occupation. Jordanian rule lasted until the 1967 Six-Day War after which it was occupied and later annexed by Israel. Silwan is under the administrative jurisdiction of the Jerusalem Municipality
The international community considers Israeli annexation of East Jerusalem as illegal under international law, but the Israeli government disputes this.In 2009, Silwan had an estimated population of 31,000.Siloam is an ancient Greek name derived from the ancient Hebrew name “Shiloah”. The Arabic name “Silwan” is also derived from Siloam. Historically, Silwan was located on the eastern slope of the Kidron Valley, above the outlet of the Gihon Spring opposite the City of David. The villagers cultivated the arable land in the Kidron Valley, which in biblical tradition formed the king’s gardens during the Davidic dynasty, to grow vegetables for market in Jerusalem. Nineteenth-century travelers describe it as verdant and cultivated,[8][9] and perched on a steep, slippery scarp cut into hillside.[10][11] It now lies on both sides of the Kidron Valley and runs alongside the eastern slopes of Jabel Mukaber.Biblical sources describe Shiloah area as “the waters of Shiloah go softly” (from the Gihon spring) (Isaiah 8:6) and “the Pool of Siloam” (Nehemiah 3:15) watering King Solomon‘s Royal Garden and later a staging area for Jewish pilgrims during the festivals of Passover, Shavuot and Sukkot wherein the spring-fed pools were used to wash and purify the supplicants who ascend the Great Staircase to the Temple Mount while singing hymns based on PsalmsTalmudic sources describe Shiloah as the center of Eretz Israel (Zamib i 5). On Sukkot water was brought from the Pool of Siloam to the Temple and poured upon the altar (Suk v. 1.) and the priests also drank of this water (Ab. N. R. xxxv).
