Islamist terrorists are exploiting the political chaos in Pakistan in a bid to acquire nuclear material for a “spectacular” attack.

At least one plot has been uncovered involving Pakistani-based terrorists planning to use nuclear material against a major European target.

The most likely terror device using nuclear material is a “dirty bomb,” where conventional explosives are fitted with radioactive material.

Security experts believe the detonation of such a device in a city like London would provoke widespread panic and chaos, even though the area of contamination would be relatively small.

“Imagine if, after all the losses caused by such an event, a jihadist organization were to claim responsibility for the forest fires,” the website says. “You can hardly begin to imagine the level of fear that would take hold of people in the U.S., in Europe, in Russia and in Australia.”

In a YNet News Article, titled “What happened to Obama,” I agree with the following statement by its author Udi Sommer, a political science professor at the University of Albany.

My problem with Obama is the uncertainty I experience in not knowing for sure what I am getting based on his life, experience, and being able to produce results in the things he verbalizes in his charismatic words, which he uses to energize those who accept them based on his personal drawing power, rather than his actual past performance to show he can deliver them.

(IsraelNN.com) Despite the best efforts of his aides to minimize his dual religious upbringing, the election campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama continues to be dogged by the issue.

Obama’s childhood religious practice and its influence in his formative years is being repeatedly raised as an issue due to a question over whether he might buckle under pressure exerted by the Muslim and Arab world when it comes to foreign policy decisions relating to the State of Israel.

‘My Muslim Faith’ – Freudian Slip?

Obama in fact slipped during a nationally-televised ABC interview on Sunday by referring to “my Muslim faith” while accusing the Republicans of suggesting he has Muslim connections.

Interviewer George Stephanopoulus, former senior political advisor and White House communications director to former Democratic president Bill Clinton, did what he could to gloss over what may have been a Freudian slip, but the damage was done.

The ABC transcript follows:

STEPHANOPOULOS: You mention your Christian faith. Yesterday you took off after the Republicans for suggesting you have Muslim connections.

Just a few minutes ago, Rick Davis, John McCain’s campaign manager, said they’ve never done that. This is a false and cynical attempt to play victim.

OBAMA: You know what

? I mean, these guys love to throw a rock and hide their hand. The…

STEPHANOPOULOS: The McCain campaign has never suggested you have Muslim connections.

OBAMA: No, no, no. But the — I don’t think that when you look at what is being promulgated on Fox News, let’s say, and Republican commentators who are closely allied to these folks–

STEPHANOPOULOS: But John McCain said that’s wrong.

OBAMA: Now, well, look.

Listen. You and I both know that the minute that Governor Palin was forced to talk about her daughter, I immediately said that’s off limits. And–

STEPHANOPOULOS: But John McCain said the same thing about questioning your faith.

OBAMA: And what was the first thing the McCain’s campaign went out and did? They said, look, these liberal blogs that support Obama are out there attacking Governor Palin.

Let’s not play games. What I was suggesting — you’re absolutely right that John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith. And you’re absolutely right that that has not come–

Praying to Saints, Bowing in Mosques

In his childhood, Obama was registered as a Muslim and bowed toward a mosque on Fridays while praying to a Catholic saint on other days, according to a 2007 report in The Los Angeles Times.

Obama’s chief spokesman, Robert Gibbs, was careful in an earlier statement to emphasize that he was raised in a secular household in Indonesia by his stepfather and mother. Gibbs said, “To be clear, Senator Obama has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim and is a committed Christian… ”

However, the issue, which has dogged the Obama team throughout the campaign, is one that is being juggled as a hot potato, with statements by aides being adjusted as time goes on. A subsequent statement to The Times offered a little more careful wording, saying that “Obama has never been a practicing Muslim,” but admitting that he had, as a child, spent time in his Chicago neighborhood’s Islamic Center.

The article quoted his former Roman Catholic and Muslim teachers, and others who said that Senator Obama was registered by his family as a Muslim at both of the schools he attended while in the third and fourth grades.

“We prayed but not really seriously, just following actions done by older people in the mosque. But as kids, we loved to meet our friends and went to the mosque together and played,” The Times quoted Zulfin Adi, who described himself as among Obama’s closest childhood friends.

Obama has written in his autobiography, “In the Catholic school when it came time to pray, I would close my eyes, then peek around the room. Nothing happened. No angels descended. Just a parched old nun and 30 brown children, muttering words.”

As a first-grader in the Catholic school, Obama prayed as a Catholic, but was registered as a Muslim since that was his father’s faith.

Questioning Obama’s Sincerity on Support for Israel
At least one well-known anti-Israel activist insists that the Democratic presidential hopeful is currently hiding his anti-Israel views in order to get elected. Activist Ali Abunimah claimed in a report earlier in the year to know Obama well and to have met him on numerous occasions at pro-Palestinian events in Chicago.

Jewish groups are also wondering whether Obama is reliable in his expressed support for Israel. The Democratic candidate told an AIPAC convention earlier this year that he backs an undivided Jerusalem.

Within 24 hours, however, in the face of a firestorm of Arab rage Obama quickly backtracked, qualifying his declaration of support with a “clarification” that he had simply meant he did not want to see the Jewish capital split asunder by barbed wire as it had been when captured by the Jordanians during the war in 1948.

The navies of Russia and America are now actively engaged in the act of positioning themselves in waters touching each others coasts, carrying nuclear capabilities, which will cause a standoff when the Middle East war begins. They will not engage as Israel and the Islamic nations slug in out and Israel is driven into the Negev wilderness.

Russia, China, and the U.S. will not engage in the three and one-half years after Israel is driven into the Negev, but will during the last battle of the war, the battle of Armageddon.

DEBKAfile’s military sources report Washington is testing the Turkish government’s response to the permanent anchoring of US warships at either of the two Georgian ports of Poti or Batumi. This would be quid pro quo for Moscow’s interest in bases in Iranian Azerbaijan and the Persian Gulf.

Monday, Sept. 8, a NATO delegation was due in Georgia to evaluate damage to military structure following the five-day war with Russia last month. This is a further irritant for Moscow after the highly sophisticated American command vessel USS Mount Whitney docked in Poti Saturday.

Our sources report that the US anticipates a protracted period of tension with Russia for the following reasons:

1. U.S. and NATO vessels will need safe coastal berths when the approaching winter storms strike the Black Sea. As time goes by, Turkey, which under international conventions controls the passage of naval vessels through the Dardanelles, will be under increasing pressure from Russia to block the waterway to NATO.

Already, Turkey fears it may lose its top trading partner, Russia. Since the outbreak of the Georgian crisis a month ago, Moscow has introduced new customs regulations which have backed up at checkpoints dozens of Turkish trucks carrying export goods. The predicted loss to Turkish firms is some $1 billion so far, a figure that would treble if Moscow continued its unacknowledged sanction up to the end of the year.

2. A permanent base in a Georgian port is seen by US strategists as the quickest way to show the flag for Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili without a frontal clash with Russia.

Washington sources argue that if Russia can maintain a large fleet base at the Crimean port of Sevastopol and a second at Abkhazia,

there is no reason why America cannot maintain a permanent presence on the Black Sea too.

3. Washington is well aware of the talk in Moscow and Tehran in recent days about establishing Russian naval bases in Iran: Iranian Azerbaijan on the Caspian Sea and an Iranian-held island in

the Persian Gulf.

The latter, if Moscow and Tehran reached agreement, would terminate US naval control of the Persian Gulf waters opposite Iran forces and drastically upset the balance of strength in the region.

Washington’s response to this talk is its bid for a permanent Black Sea base.

in American waters, President Hugo Chávez said Sunday that Venezuela could engage in naval exercises with Russian ships in the Caribbean before the end of the year.

Mr. Chávez’s words echoed news reports here over the weekend that four warships with as many as 1,000 sailors from Russia’s Pacific Fleet could take part in a training exercise in November off Venezuela’s coast. Salvatore Cammarata Bastidas, Venezuela’s chief of naval intelligence, said the exercises were aimed at streng

thening military ties.

onday that Russian naval ships, including the nuclear-powered guided missile cruiser Peter the Great and the anti-submarine ship Admiral Chabanenko, will dock in Venezuela by the end of the year.

The ships will engage in joint exercises with Venezuelan warships in the Atlantic Ocean, Russian Navy Assistant Commander Capt. Igor Dygalo told the Interfax news agency on Monday.

“The ships will have joint maneuvers, practice search and rescue at sea and check communications,” he said.

Anatoly Nesterenko, a Russian foreign ministry spokesman, said, “The temporary deployment of Russian Navy anti-sub aircraft at an air field in that country is also planned.”

He said the operations were not a reaction to the tensions between the United States and Russia over Georgia.

“This is a planned operation, and is not in any way connected to current political events, nor to the situation in the Caucasus,” he said.

“These exercises will in no way be directed against the interests of a third country.”

But Mr. Chávez made clear he had the United States in mind when discussing the joint naval operations. “Go ahead and squeal, Yanquis,” Mr. Chávez said in a mocking tone on his Sunday television program, adding, “Russia’s naval fleet is welcome here.” But Mr. Chávez qualified his remarks by saying that planning for the maneuvers was in the “preparation phase,” pending decisions by the Russian government.

After the war in Georgia, the Kremlin has expressed increasing frustration over the presence of NATO and American ships in the Black Sea.

On Saturday, after an American ship delivered humanitarian aid to Georgia at its Black Sea port of Poti, President Dmitri A. Medvedev of Russia suggested that the United States was encroaching on Russia’s sphere of influence.

A few days before the conflict in Georgia, Russia’s prime minister, Vladimir V. Putin, announced that Russia would bolster its relations with Cuba, Venezuela’s top ally. But Russian officials at the same time denied that they would deploy military hardware there.

Venezuela has gone out of its way to strengthen relations with Russia. In addition to welcoming Russian investment, Mr. Chávez has emerged as a major buyer of Russian arms. Last month, he also backed Russia’s recognition of two Georgian breakaway regions.

Mr. Chávez has framed his warming to Russia within his government’s concern over the reactivation in July of the United States Navy’s Fourth Fleet in Latin American waters after a five-decade lull.

Two of the best Muslim friends during my years of contact with the followers of Islam were two Pakistan captains named Umar and Nazier, who I studied with in a USAFIHL some 50 years ago. They were both strongly pro-western, and I wonder if they are still alive today, because they both exceeded me in age. A lot has happened in Pakistan during the last 50 years, and what is happening now is not good.

Islam is the official religion of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. In the 1998 census, it found 97% of the total population were Muslims, and in 2007 at 97% (Sunni 77%, Shi’a 20%). The estimated population of Muslims of Pakistan in 2008 is 169,800,000. Pakistan has the second largest Muslim population in the world after Indonesia. The majority of Muslims in Pakistan are Sunnis, and the Shi’a Muslim population is the second largest in the world after Iran. With each passing year the situation is growing more unfavorable for the West in Pakistan. T his

is particularly disturbing since Pakistan is estimated to have some 150 nuclear warheads.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Benazir Bhutto’s widower, formerly known as Mr Ten Per Cent because of kickbacks received during his wife’s time in office, has become one of the most powerful and potentially dangerous men in the subcontinent. Mad and bad. And now omnipotent.

He is head of state, supreme commander of the armed forces, has the power to dismiss parliament, appoint the heads of the army and election commission – and, as chairman of the National Command Authority, has the final say in the deployment of nuclear weapons.

Earlier Zardari vowed to relinquish the executive powers that Pervez Musharraf gave to the originally ceremonial presidency. Now he’s evasive. Despite the fact that he has little public support (14 per cent, according to a recent poll), holds no seat in parliament and has no mandate other than his association with the Bhutto name, he had every right to nominate himself or anyone else as President. His party – inherited from his late wife – was democratically elected in February and has the largest number of seats in parliament.

The man who now has his finger on the nuclear button was only last year declared unfit to stand trial in a UK court on account of multiple mental problems. According to court documents filed by his psychiatrists, he suffers from dementia, major depressive disorder and post-traumatic stress after spending 11 of the past 20 years in jail in Pakistan. According to their testimony last year, he found it hard even to recall the names of his wife and children.

He has long had memory problems. In the past he has been unable to recall whether he was the owner of a multimillion-pound Surrey estate (he thought not, but later took possession of it) or if $60m (£34m) in a frozen Swiss bank account was actually his. He also thought that he had graduated from the London School of Economics, or was it the London School of Business Studies? There are no records of his doing either.

The doctors’ diagnoses of severe mental ill-health rid Zardari of his corruption case in the UK. Last November’s National Reconciliation Ordinance, brokered by the Americans to allow Bhutto’s return to Pakistan and passed by Musharraf, rid him of the rest. It also guaranteed him lifelong immunity from prosecution for corruption. He appears to have made medical history and rid himself of his dementia in time to become President. The only thing he can’t shake off is his appalling reputation.

Zardari has long been dogged by allegations of crime and corruption. In 2003, a Swiss magistrate found him guilty in absentia of laundering $10m. Musharraf’s National Accountability Bureau estimated that he had looted up to $1.5bn from the treasury during his wife’s two terms in office. In 1990, he was in trouble for allegedly tying a remote-controlled bomb to the leg of a businessman and sending him into a bank to withdraw money from his account as a pay-off. More sinisterly, he was charged with complicity in the murder of his brother-in-law Murtaza Bhutto, but the case was never tried. He was also implicated in the 1996 murder of a judge, Justice Nizam Ahmed, and his lawyer son.

Even if Zardari is given the benefit of the doubt and has changed after his wife’s assassination and his many years in jail, his behaviour in the run-up to his election as President proves he still can’ t be

trusted. He has already reneged on several written agreements made with the coalition, including his pledge to field a non-partisan candidate for president, as well as his pre-election promise to reinstate the judges deposed by Musharraf. If reinstated, they could repeal the amnesty granted to him and reopen corruption investigations.

Inside Pakistan, people are despondent. The economic situation is worse than ever, with inflation at almost 25 per cent. Outside Pakistan, despite his reputation, he is tolerated.

He’s seen as pro-West. He will be another “key ally in the war on terror”.

America is stepping up its military campaign in the region, not least because George Bush wants Osama bin Laden’s grizzled head before the US presidential election on 4 November.

Strikes against Pakistan’s tribal areas by US/Nato forces are not uncommon, but on Wednesday, for the first time, ground forces attacked a village on the Pakistani side of the border, in South Waziristan, killing 20 innocent people. Tribesmen are up in arms – literally – and have promised revenge, and there has been widespread condemnation. If Zardari is seen to be tolerating such attacks by foreign troops inside Pakistan, a violent backlash is likely.

On Friday, he pledged to eliminate the Taliban.

A tall order. Since Musharraf joined the “war on terror” at US bidding and expense and sent Pakistani troops into the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Pashtun tribesmen have been falling over their Kalashnikovs to join the Taliban. With hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people from Bajaur as a result of conflict, weekly reports of aerial attacks and collateral damage, the Taliban movement is growing in strength by the day.

And it’s not just the formidable Pashtuns on

the warpath. The Taliban is operating on fertile soil. Nationwide, 71 per cent of Pakistanis oppose co-operating with the US in counterterrorism and 51 per cent

oppose fighting the Taliban at all, according to a June Gallup poll. The vast majority of Pakistan’s 190 million people may not like the Taliban, but they dislike the US and what is seen as its proxy army even more. Even within the army, there are rebels who object to being forced to kill their own people.

The majority of the population is also deeply opposed to what it sees as a foreign occupation in Afghanistan, with more than 80 per cent favouring a negotiated settlement and withdrawal.

Suicide attacks within Pakistan – unheard of before 9/11 – are now so commonplace they barely make the front pages. From the wilds of the tribal areas to the mosques of west London, the war on terror has been hopelessly counterproductive, despite being fuelled by millions of dollars. Its chief beneficiaries have been the Taliban and their sympathisers who feed on the instability.

Zardari has replaced Musharraf, but their policies will be the same. He is unlikely to prove more successful at tackling extremism. His already meagre popularity rating is expected to dwindle rapidly as he is increasingly perceived as another US stooge. And despite all his powers, he is still less powerful than the army. As ever, if the politicians fail to steer Pakistan through its myriad problems, the military, which has notched up 33 years of rule in Pakistan’s 61-year history, will step in.

What is depressing is not that everything now changes with the election of Asif Ali Zardari, but that everything stays the same.

I have been waiting since the last century for the Middle East Islamic nations to finally realize the only way they could ever defeat Israel in a conventional war was by lulling them into a false sense of security. It appears they have finally come to realize all their internal uprisings and terrorist acts inside Israel cannot achieve their goal of driving Israel out of the land from Dan to Beersheba.

When all the widespread terrorist activities were at their peak, I knew they were not going to produce the final war of the Gentile Age.

It would only begin when the foes of Israel wised up that they needed to lull Israel into a false sense of security, and use that time to prepare themselves for war. I closed Archive Prophecy Update Number 12 in February of 2001 with the following paragraph.

“Israel must be lulled into a false sense of security before any united Islamic attack against her can be successful. Until this happens, and it will, I merely wait for it to come to pass. Then, when peace and security for Israel does appear to arrive in the Middle East, you can know that the final war of this age is about to occur. Don’t believe all these terrorist attacks will suddenly cause the final war of this age to begin. It is only when they cease that you can know the last war, which finally produces Armageddon some 3 and ½ years after it begins, is imminent.”

Quite frankly, in the last century, I expected Israel’s foes to recognize the need to start doing as I indicated in the quoted paragraph in 2004, at which time I thought they would begin to lull Israel into a false sense of security while preparing themselves to attack her. However, they did not reach that decision until early 2008.

Syria, Iran, Hizbullah, and Hamas are now implementing this plan of conspiracy.

They intend to keep Israel and the rest of the world in diplomatic talks of peace while they prepare for war.

They have two major goals while they keep the international community engaged in a maze of talks, (1) Getting the U.S. troops out of Iraq, and (2) Getting sufficient nuclear weapons in their hands to deter Israel from launching hers against them. I think these two goals will be reached at some point in time between 2010 and 2015.

Don’t forget that Pakistan is an Islamic nation, and when the new administration believes it would be more in their national interest to join the foes of Israel, they would do so in a New York minute.

Pakistan has an arsenal of nuclear weapons and the missiles to launch them. It will be interesting to see if Pakistan allies with Iran during the period of 2010 to 2015, which would certainly be a deterrent arsenal against Israel, and insure a conventional, rather than a nuclear war. National Interest is what drives the Administrations of all nations on this planet, even if it is sadly misdirected.

Assad Offers Israel Peace while Allying with Hizbullah

(IsraelNN.com) Syrian President Bashar Assad proposed to visiting French President Nicolas Sarkozy a secret six-point plan for peace with Israel while making it clear he backs Hizbullah. At the same time, the terrorist party’s leader Hassan Nasrallah exclaimed that he is a war with Israel.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert previously has stated that peace with Syria depends on Assad’s breaking ties with Hizbullah and Iran.

The flurry of statements came as French President Sarkozy met with Syria, Turkey and Qatar to discuss regional peace.

Assad did not reveal the points of his plan but previously has said that direct talks with Israel must be conditioned on Israel’s giving up the strategic Golan Heights.

He said he will wait for Israel to submit its own peace plan before deciding on whether to proceed with direct negotiations.

Sarkozy is the first Western leader to visit Damascus in several years and is promoting direct talks between Syria and Israel. Turkey has been mediating indirect discussions between Syria and Israel. The fifth round of talks, originally scheduled for Sunday, has been postponed by Assad, ostensibly because of the cloudy political situation of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

“We don’t see any interest in abandoning the resistance,” Assad told the Hizbullah-backed Al-Manar television network. “Our position has always been clear.

Our position toward the resistance against any occupation in Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine is firm and has not changed.”

While Assad is touting peace with Jerusalem and reaffirming ties with Hizbullah, Hassan Nasrallah, head of Hizbullah, stated, “We are a threatened country, and Israel aspires to control us and threatens Lebanon.

My hostility towards Israel is the greatest possible hostility.”

Nasrallah also raised the issue of recovering the bodies of Hizbullah terrorists who were killed during the Second Lebanon War.

“We will not give up on any of those resistance activists who were killed,” he said.

Nasrallah also dismissed statements this week by Defense Minister Ehud Barak that the IDF is being restructured into a winning army.” The Hizbullah leader said, “Barak spoke clearly of the Israeli option for the next stage.

They know their navy is weak, and that their air force has exhausted all of its options, and it cannot gain a military advantage in the next war.”
